Does Baileys go 'off'?

Trying to think if I need to bin an unopened bottle of this pish - it is Xmas and the Mrs likes it, as does my mum!

It has a sell by date on it which is a while ago but normally I take these with a pinch of salt but being a creamy liqueur style drink????

Brandy, Port etc, bog off with your 'sell by' dates

Should be fine . Where has it been kept ? Cool and dark is best

Kept by the wine rack so constant cooler surroundings and reasonably dark.

Guess taste test? Yuck! WIll see if I can get the Mrs to taste it....

It will only taste off if you tell them it is out of date . Never used to have a date on it years ago

I think it can separate and curdle if it has been opened.

Just open it and have a taste. If it doesn't smell or taste OBVIOUSLY off, crack on!

Since there is cream in the liqueur there must be a degradation with time. However few if any micro organisms could survive to cause decay in an alcohol mixture at that strength.

There must be a point at which the flavour and contents do degrade. I have certainly kept Baileys for more than year and drunk it with no noticeable taste variation. Within reasonable time scale I doubt if Baileys does degrade. However after say 5 years, who knows?

Just wack it through the blender and serve if in doubt.

I have an opened bottle of Irish Cream (or whatever it's called) from last year.
I checked it a couple of days ago and it seems fine.

Should do quite nicely over ice for Mrs Pints on Christmas day. (She doesn't really drink but doesn't mind a glass of the stuff once a year.)

The short answer is yes. This creamy devil spawn of satan does go off. The missus loved it then had a year off the booze. We had to bin all the opened bottles when she decided to remount the wagon.

It's evil stuff at the best of times.

I agree on most counts but the bottle is unopened! Devil's juice it certainly is but I am hoping that when originally sealed, there would be no real contaminants
to speak of so will get Mrs to give it a try - I think the brand new stuff is utter sheep's vomit so wouldn't have a clue

If in doubt and its unopened, go and buy a bottle from a supermarket and then take the old one back. Unwanted gift.

I'm sure it just curdles, from previous out of date bottles we've had a go at. I reckon you'll be fine if it isn't opened.Use your eyes and nose they're pretty reliable
