gammon in the slow cooker.
Discussion
evening all.
i'm going to grab a gammon joint when i'm at smithfield tonight.
going to do it in the slow cooker, thinking of either doing it either in coke, (the drink, not the class a)
or, with apples and cider.
your thoughts, hints, and ideas please???
do i coat the ham in honey aswell?
thanks in advance.

Do it. It works brilliantly.
You can either cook it 'wet' or 'dry'. Personally my preference is for cheaper slipper gammon or bacon collar cooked 'wet', ie. covered with liquid, plus a few bay leaves, some peppercorns, a carrot, plus an onion studded with 4 cloves.
Give that 8-10 hours and it will be meltingly tender and soft.

Thanks peeps, right I'll go down the route of adding some sugar, bay leaves and cloves as your suggestions!
I'm Gonna go wet, would apple juice, or cider work?
If I go the wet route with cider, is it still a good idea to smear the joint in honey!
Still learning.
