do the 991 3.4 and the 3.4 987.2/981 share common parts?
Discussion
just been reading planet9 and the guys over the pond think the 981s is a detuned 3.4 991?or is it a different block(but both are 3436cc)?if it is the case above or the parts(ecu, head etc) are interchangeable to bring the 3.4 987.2/981 upto a 991 hp how easy would this be to do?and will it invalidate the warranty using genuine porsche parts?
if it can be done and does not invalidate warranty its a cracking way to get 350hp from your spyder/caymanR

I don't know if they are the same but that would be a very costly route for just 20 bhp.
the blocks must be the same but agreed costly if engine internals and a new head etc but is it just an ecu flash/different exhaust manifolds?but even if it costs 2-3 grand and you keep the warranty surely its worth it?

i know it is a 9A1 engine so is a 2009 > turbo?we must assume the block/pistons etc are common to both 3.4 991 and 3.4 987.2/981 but the extra power must come from the head/exhaust and inlet plus the ecu!but some on planet9 think its just an ecu tweak which i very much doubt but!the boxster 987.2s has 310hp and the caymanR has 20hp more from an ecu tweak?and perhaps bigger exhaust manifolds?anonymous said:

the 3.2 vs 3.4 m96 are different cc the 3.4 having a larger bore but the 3.4 991/987.2/981 are exact same 3436 cc bore/stroke!but to have 350hp in my spyder and crucially keep the warranty for less than £3k its got to be worth it thats why i asked the question
