I'm currently trying to settle on what car for my next daily driver and I am thinking a boxster maybe fun for 18 months or so but I don't really know anything about them. I had been thinking of a Z4 but one of the lads in the office has just bought one so I'd rather get something different.

I've got around £15k to spend and there seems to be a fair amount of choice of cars around. I'll probably do 12-14k miles so I'm thinking the 2.7 rather than the S would be better or would i be missing out?

I've tried having a look around but I can't really see any buyers guides, is there anything specific to look for? I assume they are pretty reliable but is a warranty recommended? Can you get an official warranty from porsche on a car that wasn't bought directly through them?

Also what are the service intervals and costs like?

Thanks for your help.

Speaking as someone who has recently bought a Boxster I can only give you the following advice, drive as many as you can. I started off with a budget of £15K but after trying a few landed up with an RS60 and spending £26K so be careful. They are such an underated car and things like the active suspension system PASM and the like need to be tried to see if it is the sort of optional equipment you may find desireable. On a long run back from buying it I achieved 35 mpg but hooning around I get about 23-25 and believe me you will find it far too tempting not to take it out for a regular blast. The more I drive it the more I like it and as a lifelong Lotus man I am seriously thinking of selling my much loved late V8 Esprit because the particular spec Boxster I have is that good.

Exactly what BIRMA said. At that budget there will be loads available with very different spec so you need to figure out what is important to you.

I know the 'S' brigade will be along soon but the 2.7 is a really sweet motor, needs to be revved a little harder but if you are after a daily driver its perfect. If you are going on the track then go for a S.

well I've got an earlier 3.2s ('03) which I paid just over £8k for and it's brilliant.

Thanks for your help guys, that silver one looks great. Heated seats is the only thing that I really want (at the moment) but I need to do some more research into whats out there and what I can afford.

The whole porsche thing is new to me and I'd not considered one before. I'm very impressed that the main dealers give a 2 year warranty. I'm in no rush to buy so I'll be doing plenty of research before I do anything else.

Can anyone help with what the service costs are and their frequency please?

There is a service at 2 and 4 years. The 4 year service is the big one and I think the Porsche dealers have a set price service menu. From what I can remember for a later 987 model its £480 and £610 basic including VAT but other owners on here may know more. I thought the costs weren't too bad, but mine had nearly two years warranty so I will have to use an OPC.
