Ok john another question, can I tow a car on a motorway? I would be using a fixed bar like the AA use, if so what is the speed limit etc. as the car if fixed would I need a towing board?

Still working on that one, I am ,at the moment of the opinion that if it is a rigid tow then it is OK as it is treated as a trailer. Towing with a rope is as far as I am aware only permissible to remove a car from the motorway via the next exit. I will have to confirm it though.

If its treated as a trailer, doesnt it have to be classed as unbraked and then subject to the cars unbraked towing limit probably 750 kg? (either bar or A frame) and wouldnt most cars be over that weight? G

Well I did tow on the motorway, we had a traffic car come past us but didn’t do anything so I presume it was ok. The car was a mini so probably doesn’t weigh much over 750Kg.

The MG was red which pleased all the Man U supporters passing us. We didn't get stopped but when the tow rope bust on the North Circ' a plod on horse-back trotted over to have a nose. The only thing he insisted on was that after repairing the rope I out the number of the tow vehicle on the back of the Twin Cam. What a funny day that was! Rich...
