Tuscan or.......
Discussion
Ive got a bit of an itch to change my car(lotus esprit v8)and so was thinking of a tuscan, but i just wondered if anyone has any experience of the nissan 350z.
i know its not as quick, though its not slow, not as distinctive etc etc but it would be new, with all the benefits that brings but would i just get bored and wish id bought the tuscan?

Hi there - I went through the same decision making process a few months ago. I test drove a 350Z and was generally quite keen on the car. However I currently have an old golf so anything would seem better! Although I was very happy with the way the car stuck to the road (especially round faster corners) the acceleration was not as exciting as the specs would suggest (0-60 in 5.5 secs). With a £26K price tag for a new car though it does represent reasonable value for money.
However I then started to look at what else I could get for the same price – a Maserati 3200GT (www.pistonheads.com/sales/detail.asp?i=27924&s=209) or a Tuscan (plenty of cars at or under £26K). When compared against these two there was no contest for me. Undoubtedly the Nissan will be a much more reliable car - but why buy a sports car if that is your major criterion. For performance, looks and sheer enjoyment you can clearly do better.
In the end I though the Maserati was a little too “mature” for me at the moment (not helped by the fact that my girlfriend’s father wants to get one). The Tuscan has far more performance than I will ever need and looks amazing. Picture a 350z and a Tuscan sitting side by side, engines idling which do you want to drive off in? – no contest!!
I have now lined up a number of test-drives with various dealers and commissioned a cousin in the motor industry to source me a good car. Even without ever having driven a Tuscan I know I would be disappointed to settle for the 350Z.

indeed i do miss the cerb.
i too think the 350z will become the next TT but if you get in first.....
Tuscan is what i fancy but i would like it to be as good as my cerb was, thats my concern, whereas the 350z would be less exciting but more dependable.
having said that its not my only car,and you only live once!!
looks like the lotus is sold too.

I changed my highly tuned 300zx for a Tuscan after having the same ideas as yourself test drove a Elise, TT, M3, Boxster etc etc but eventualyy did buy a Tuscan which I love to death I work offshore and dont get to use it that much but when I do drive it I giggle like a schoolboy and grin for Scotland. Alas it is broken at the moment having only driven approx 15 miles in 10 weeks (offshore trips and garage logistics account for some of this) but would not change it for the world. I just wish there was someone up Aberdeen way who could repair it instead of low loader to Power.
Also previously had a 300zx TT and considered a 350.
Have you drove one ? At the end of the day I just can't get excited about being surrounded by cheap jap plastic... the 300 was at least trying to complete with the 944 turbos and 911s. The 350 with the TTs and mazda8s...it's just too normal and 'productiony' imho.
