Which camera ? Smaller than DSLR, but quick response time

I've done some searches and read reviews, but still feel stuck.

I've got a DSLR which I don't want to cart around everywhere. I need a smaller P&S or bridge camera that has a quick response time (from clicking the button to taking the photo) to take baby photos, etc.

Would be good if I can shoot RAW rather than JPG, but flexible if speed, size and quality of photos line up.

I'm currently leaning towards one of the Panasonic Lumix range, or a Nikon ...

Can anyone make any recommendation based on personal experiences ?

One of the new CSC cameras might be a good bet. They offer decent responsiveness compared to the regular compacts when I've briefly demo'd them in the stores. I like the Lumix GX-1 as it seems reasonably priced with very good responsiveness, a great featureset, typical solid Panasonic support and a huge range of lenses. They shoot Raw too.

Alternatively, does the Sony RX100 shoot Raw?

Yes RX100 as do the NEX's if interchangeable lenses are desired - the emount lenses are very neat.

NEX have APS-C size sensors too.

Based on personal experience the P7000 Nikon is definitely not what you're after. I love the Nikon SLRs I have owned including my current one, but their P&S range was not a good choice for me. Image quality isn't too bad but handling aint great and speed is certainly not its strong point. Canon S95/100 etc or Lumix are the ones I would have on my shortlist today.

Got a canon G12 and can say that its excellent and almost get more use than the DSLR I have.

Although I would love to get my hands on a Canon GX1 to see what they are like in comparison.

You haven't mentioned budget, and I didn't check if either/both had RAW, but I believe they do, if my memory serves me correctly, from a while back.
