Hey guys

Been creeping around this section of the forum for awhile now and after much research ,I've Just bought my first Porsche last week a 2007 997 turbo tip coupe balsalt black 28000miles options are:
Sports chrono
Adaptive sports seats
Psam
Heated seats
Rear park sensors
Carbon fibre interior trim including on steering wheel

Question I wanted to ask was WOT at around 4-5k revs, I'm getting 0.8 bar on the display is this correct?

I don't know if its me who overly thought this would be very powerful compared to my last 2 cars, which were E55 Amg kompressor + C63 Amg , I mean the Porsche has silly amount of grip compared to the Amg's and handling is immense, I just expected a lot more power from this standard 997 turbo.

Thought I'd ask here first before I go peck the service advisors head next week sometime .

If you put the foot all the way down you get 1bar in normal mode and 1.2 in sport mode. Don't do this in town! smile

something wrong with your car matey. I've had he use of E55 and C63 both for a month or so each as a pal of mine was FD at MB UK. Both cars felt they were going backwards compared to a turbo (996 or 997) although bags of character and I reckon the C63 has more character.

Thanks for replies

How long should I keep my foot down for me to get the 1 bar. Speed? Gear?

Then again it's proberley just me who's thinking its slow compared to the Amg's seeing as the Porsche has no spin an shoots off without messing about :s

Btw I don't mean to say it feels slower than the Amg's meant I expected a lot more from it.

Will try checking pressure readings again tonight or tmrw.

If you have time to look at the boost gauge, there is something wrong with your car driving

This^

The first time I floored my 997t, the shove was dizzying. The second time, in sport mode, I momentarily was unable to focus on the road ahead and backed off. I simply cannot imagine hitting max boost and being able to look at the gauge at the same timeyikes

But maybe I'm just a lightweightwhistle

Couple of things. One is the DME attempts to satisfy the torque demand of the driver as it is signaled from the e-Gas. If it can do this with less than max boost it will do so.

OTOH, under certain conditions one can observe boost levels over the norm. For example when driving at higher elevations. My experience: At sea level the most boost I can see from my 03 996 Turbo is 0.7 bar. But at higher elevations, up to around 9K feet, I have seen boost of 0.8 bar and even 0.9 bar and for enough time to know the boost was real and not some boost gage goofiness.

Next boost drops off at higher rpms.

If you want to "test" the boost with the engine/drivetrain fully up to temp and this means not the nanosecond the coolant temp gage reaches whatever point it usually reaches after some driving but after having been there for some some -- minutes and minutes -- on a deserted road with plenty of room arrange to have the car moving in 4th gear with engine revs at around 2.5K.

Nail the gas pedal. And I mean nail it. And keep it nailed. If you can safely check the boost gage. Or have a passenger do this. You should see the boost reach whatever is the nominal max value for your car: 1.0 bar or 1.2 bar whatever it is.

Then as you keep hard on the gas pedal and rpms climb the boost will drop off to well, protect the engine.

Update guys

Right so I found the space and time to do a few runs biggrin and instead of keeping my foot down for 3 seconds and letting go, this time I'd keep it nailed and I got 1.0 bar reading plenty of times in normal mode . beer

So pressure is confirmed to be normal. Think it's just me who overly expected loads more compared to the Amg's .

Thanks for the help and info.

If you are just comparing straight line shove then agreed it won't be loads more than the 6.3 litre monster engine. However. Soon as you add a turn into the equation this is where Porsches excel. Having said that the turbo shove is plenty enough. You must e missing the amg noise which adds a lot of dramatic effect.

I had an E55 AMG just before the 997 turbo (also tip with sports chrono).

You would be surprised at how little there is in it once you've got traction and are moving.

The turbo would simply walk away from the E55, and nothing more - so it's never going to feel that much quicker.

Also, the instant kick in the back from the supercharged AMG engine makes it feel very quick.

I can't comment too much on the C63, but when I drove one, it felt slower than my E55 did.

Porkupine - I think your right about the noise, may need to look at a exhaust system for the Porsche .

Vinnie83- I agree with you all the way, the Porsche is super quick but just doesn't feel it, maybe because of bit of turbo lag, where as the supercharger power was always therebiggrin.

Callughan-what are these tricks you mention??

Btw- E55 would walk on c63amg all day long, have to push the C63 to get power out of it where as the E power is always there.
