Hi,

Finally got round to getting winter wheels and tyres for the GT3. Luckily the forecasted snow for yesterday never materialised where I was so didn't get caught out there.

I went with ATS Radial wheels from Wolfrace as they were available with OEM winter size and offset for the 996 MkII and then had some Continental WinterContact 830's fitted to them by Event Tyres

I think the wheels look alright, considering they are not genuine OEM units.

First few miles were terrifying. The change in feel is marked. There was very little grip at the front or rear and the whole car felt spongy and very oversteery.

By the time I got home everything felt much better though. Must have ha a right old load of release agent on them.

Should really put these pics in the dirty car thread too :-)

Poor thing looks like it's crying...

Fair play mate! Looks ok to me for not being OEM wheels.

I'm picking mine (996 Mk.2 CS) up from sussex tomorrow and have a long drive back to Aberdeen, really hoping I'm not going to come accross any road conditions that have me wishing I was on winters!

Good for you. Makes me almost ashamed to admit mine is usually tucked up in the garage on its trickle charger at this time of year! I did take it out last week when it was a bit icy in places but generally don't bother driving it if conditions look unfavourable so not worth me sorting out winter boots for it, but would be interested in how you are finding them nonetheless.

Mine is under its cover for the winter and frankly, where I live (on a hill where ploughs and gritters dont go) I am well happy about that!

Good on you. I have winter tyres on my town car and they are a revelation. Not sure booking a trackday at Goodwood this Tuesday was wise.

By the way you could have your cage vinyl wrapped for colour match.

I've got a Tequipment cage, Schroth harnesses and sub bars for under the seats to go in. I've already had the cage powder coated black to match the rest of the car and look a bit more Motorsport. Should be fitted this week, shouldn't it Mike? wink
