I have a Gen 1 GT3RS and was wondering if it still has the wiring in place for the rear speakers even though they aren't fitted.

In the 996 RS, the wiring is still there. I assume you would have to buy a new rear speaker and cover from (in the case of a 996RS) a 996 GT3 from Porsche.

Alternatively, you can also upgrade the speakers in the car whilst using the standard covers so that it does not look any different. The rear blanking plate has a solid cover which would need to be cut off with a Dremel if you want to attach a speaker.

I have done this previously with a 996 RS. The following garage used to provide an upgrade kit based on Alpine speakers for those who are comfortable with a bit of DIY:

They may have a kit for the 997RS as well.
It should only take 5 minutes to unscrew the rear cover on a 997RS to confirm (the 996RS requires a star key to unscrew)
