Thanks Mike - not that close though.I popped down to the Fareham branch of Wheel Specialist to see some samples. The diamond cut was a lovely finish but even on their sample there were obvious rings. The chrome powder coat looked good on one wheel but wasn't great on another. It wasn't that flat. The guy said it was all down to the amount of pitting/corrosion on the wheel. Still undecided.

It does, yes. I'd pretty much decided to go with the powdercoating but I may need to do more research. The wheels are getting stripped to see what they're like under the lacquer so I still have the option to go either way. I don't know if that helps at all.
Had the choice of diamond cut or powdercoat. With diamond cut you either have to spend hours polishing (and in my experience, with regular road use the finish soon loses its 'sharpness') or lacquer them which doesnt last. I wanted to spend more time using it and less time polishing it. Jimed used to have a gorgeous maroon S with powdercoated wheels, always looked 'right'. I got mine powdercoated 'bright aluminium' with black detailing at WRC at Bamber Bridge, Preston (ex TVR man in charge). Best thing I have done on this car, and it is out in all weathers.

they do look good 
though Swansea (amazingly) is imo the place for wheel refurbs (and hoods too !!!!)
Steve @ APS has people send him wheels from all over the UK - hes very popular on the vw scene and well we all know what fussy $%&*& they can be.
