Approaching the annual trip out to select the Christmas tree. Usually end up in B&Q paying a fair bit for a half decent tree, but wondering where else I could go, particularly if it means supporting local businesses.

Does anyone have any recommendations of independant places in the Soton area with a good selection? smile

Strawberry Fields, in between Brockenhurst and Lymington. They grow them in a field all year and then sell them from a shack in the winter. It's where they have the car boot sale. Have a little drive round the forest whilst you're here, it's pretty at this time of year.

Otherwise all the garden centres will have them.

I personally don't see the point in growing a tree and then cutting it down whilst it's still young, having it in your house for 20 days and then throwing it away!

Portsmouth Rd, just up from Veals, and next to the old Vosper playing fields. We've been going for the last 10 years or so, almost seems like tradition now. Cheaper than the larger garden centres too.

That's where we get ours.

I believe the old boy died last year, and although they're still doing trees this year, time will tell whether the prices and quality remain attractive!

There was a big sign by the Tescomaloes roundabout this morning, I think they must be sellign trees on that patch of land opposite Hamble Motors where the circus/fair sometimes is.

Thanks chaps. Tree duly bought from the place next to Vospers as advised above. Price wise, prob 10/15 quid cheaper than what we'd usually get, but the quality seems a bit better. smile

Here:

Every year without fail! Turn right as you get out of Ashurst down Woodlands Road, then turn right down Fletchwood Lane, they'll be loads of cars parked around there and it's signposted/

Pickwells near bursledon. Just got ours today. Great service and £15 cheaper than other places we use. And a nicer tree!

Happy days.
