Bought a 997 in March from an OPC with one owner 16700 miles and I thought peace of mind with the 2year warranty. Brakes haven't been feeling good for a while so take it into my local dealer who 6000 miles later tell me I need new front disks as mine are warped. The cost, a cool thousand!
Apparently this is classed as wear ad tear and the warranty bit of Porsche won't authorise the repairs. The sales manager of the dealer I bought from (before the formal response from the warranty approval dept) says the pads show no sign of heavy use ie track therefore it's perfectly reasonable to get these repaired under warranty. to say I'm unhappy 8 months after purchase and only 6000 miles is an understatement.
The whole reason I paid a premium price from an OPC was to protect me from this sort of stuff. Any advice before I consider legal redress?

I think most if not all warranties would have brake discs as consumables and not covered. You could try to get the dealer to make a contribution towards the cost

Go to a decent independent garage, you may even be able to get new disks and pads at Eurocarparts.

...and kiss your opc warranty good bye as a result?

Op - i suspect it will be a losing battle - porsche have deep pockets and good legal teams so i wouldn't threaten legal redress as it won't carry any leeway and will formalise conversations which is a PITA....just drop an email to porsche gb explaining your view and cross your fingers

Would that not then invalidate my warranty?

Yes. I'm no legal expert but suspect this path could cost you more in time and money than its worth.

I'd speak with the person that sold you the car and ask if he can push for a Goodwill claim on this occasion. If he can't escalate to the Dealer Principal and ask if he can help. A good result would be 50:50, whether that 50% is covered by warranty or by the OPC, with a good explanation as to why.

Try and avoid the stress of the legal route. Good luck.

It's possible.
Yet another reason to avoid the 'warranty'..

Maybe you could get an OPC down to an acceptable price for the work?

Probably first time discs being changed so not too unreasonable or unexpected at that mileage.

Unfortunately you've got no legal redress as they're wear and tear items not covered by the extended warranty.

Get an indi to do the disks and pads using original parts.

Even if you use original parts, the opc warranty requires they do the work...

...legally they can't enforce it on the 2 year warranty on a brand new car...but with the extended warranty any work done outide the oc network (original parts or not) puts you in breach...

Then it ceases to be about the car and the driving, and just becomes a game with the accountants and the marketing department, what a load of crap. That's a new porsche off the list for me then, I couldn't deal with that amount of interference tbh.

I'm sorry but how would they know that they were changed if they were OE parts? Surely they would just look to see if the discs have the correct model number and be none the wiser as to who changed them.

Are they really warped? I'd say it's bloody unlikely, I'd do a few very hard stops from high speed to clean them up if you can find a bit of road with some grip at this time of year. Chances are it's deposits built up from some hard stops down to zero and holding the brakes on leaving pad residue on the discs.

Think that's a little harsh but you're entailed to your view. This is after poorly repaired alloys, having to get them to change the tyres after they old me all of them would be new, which they subsequently weren't and now this. I think new disks, warped not warn is very disappointing after just 6k miles. I'll not be buying another one.

Sounds like this is the straw that broke the camels back and there's a wee bit history there?

Other than the bad experiences you've had, do you like the car?

Wording on my Porsche extended warranty requires genuine Porsche parts, fitted to Porsche standards. ie not necessarily by Porsche, just by someone that can fit them properly. Unless the warranty terms have changed in the last 18 months since my warranty began, original parts fitted by an independent dealer will not invalidate the extended warranty.

OP good luck, hope you get some goodwill contribution. As a benchmark, you can get front pads and discs changed for around £600 + VAT at an independent, that uses genuine Porsche parts. If they don't offer it below that price, I'd get it done elsewhere.

Warped? Rubbish. Bet if you had them skimmed then bedded the pads in properly they'd be fine. If that's no good buy a pair of genuine Porsche discs (even from on OPC if necessary) and either fit them yourself or get an indy to do it. How can your OPC know they werent replaced by another OPC?
