School Fund payments

Mini GhiaX has recently started in High School and we got sent home a nice letter asking for payment of the annual school fund.

I've got to admit I've never heard of this and have so far not paid it, do I have to or rather is this normal for all High Schools? I thought this is what some of our taxes went towards paying, so why am I being asked for more money.

Plus I've since had letters for contributions towards materials for cooking and technology classes. I'm happy to pay for school trips but this just seems unusual to me.

Did you not attend the open evening/morning where this would have been explained to you? I would suggest you ask the school office for someone to call you to explain what it is before you contribute.
