If you were the driver of a black BMW Z4 on Carden Place / Queen’s Road (ultimately Forest Road / Rubislaw Den South) on Saturday around 15:30, please take a moment to read this.

I was the driver of the metallic red Discovery 4. I’m not sure what was going through your mind but you need to have a think about your driving.

If your behaviour was because you believed me to be driving aggressively then you really do need to take a look at yourself and get a grip. Slowing down to 20mph in order to frustrate the person behind really isn’t very smart.

For what it’s worth, my brother had become ill and I really needed to get him to our parents’ house in a hurry.

You are a fool and even if you do read this post, I don’t suppose it’s going to change you. Perhaps, it will help you to think a wee bit sometime in the future though.

Have a nice day.

Cheers,

I didn't notice anything other than it being a Z4 and black.

I was just doing my best to get to my destination as quickly and safely as I could and that was pretty much all I was interested in.

Being "blocked" was the last thing I needed at the time.

All ended ok by the way and my brother is fine.

Playing devils advocate for a moment, but assuming you were driving 'safely', you must still have been maintaining a safe gap from the car in front, right?

Did you miss out the part where you were tailgating him before he decided to slow down?

Sounds like you need to relax a bit when driving, the BMW driver is entitled to drive at 20mph if he wishes.

Slowing down to 20mph in order to frustrate the person behind..

IIRC we were taught to accelerate upto the speed limit unless conditions dictate otherwise.

Were you there? Did you witness this?

This seems a strange thing to say. Why would he, just out of the blue, think you were being aggressive?

What were you doing to give him cause to think that?

Are we getting the full story here?

Yes, I would likely have concluded similar.

I was heading out of town on Skene Street.

At lights with Esslemont / Rose (which were at red), Z4 was at the head of left hand lane and right hand lane was clear.

Ahead (circa. 200m) were parked cars on the left.

With the best of intentions (getting my brother home) I took the right hand lane in order to be first away from the lights and get a clear road.

I didn't want to stamp on the accelerator as I was worried about my brother but I did take off from the lights quicker than I normally would.

This apparently incensed Z4 driver as they gunned it to get ahead of me before the parked cars. They then slowed to 20mph and speeded up / slowed down all the way to Queen's Cross.

While they were doing 30mph or more, I maintained a "normal" distance.

When they were slowing down to 20, the gap closed up.

At Queen's Cross, they gunned it across the roundabout and then slowed immediately to 20mph or less. They maintained this speed until around The Dutch Mill and then speeded up again.

I regret posting this, I really do.

Only Z4 driver, me and the occupants of my car know what happened.

I do drive safely on public roads and I respect other road users.

My conscience is clear.

Will that suffice?

Not only a dig at the original poster as see more and more threads like this but I really don't understand why stuff like this gets posted on an Internet forum, probably a million to one shot that the guy in the other car will read it so what's the point!
If it annoys people that much they should sort it out at the time or let it be...

There have been a lot of police patrols on Queens Road due to people speeding along it, so maybe the Z4 driver was aware of this.

Maybe the lights on the 20 mph zones along Carden Place and Queens Road were flashing and the driver was respecting safety and the speed limit.

If it was a life and death situation call 999 and ask for an ambulance.

Was the Z4 a PH'ers car? Or did you just post up on here for a rant?

I often just sit at 20-25 on that stretch of road because of the schools, parked cars everywhere, drunks wondering into town across the roads, police often there etc etc

It is irritating when people tailgate in town but I can understand you had good reason to make progress.

No he's not; not when it's a deliberate act designed to antagonise another driver. It's called driving without due care and attention.

Eric, despite the instinct to kill that these cretins bring out in most of us, you have to try and rise above it, even though it's not easy.

Let karma take over and you know that one day his behaviour will bite him sorely on the arse.

Additionally, it would appear that you both stopped for a red light. My experience is that this is not the accepted practice in Aberdeen wink

Ah I know that crossroad, I've done some overtakes there before as the OP intended hehe I've grown out of it though wink

I guess the Z4 was expecting the OP to turn right as the majority of traffic would, then thought the OP was trying to race him/her off the lights? Plus I suspect the Z4 wouldn't appreciate being boxed in with parked cars approaching, no wonder he/she booted it.

On the other hand, tailgating even if the car in front does slow down to 20 (possibly for a legit reason/hazard) is dangerous driving and thus more cretinous than driving without due care and attention.

There will always be folks who want to 'teach folks a lesson' if they aren't driving 'as required'. Mostly it is when folks are trying to 'make progress' - not racing - that these self appointed traffic police make it difficult for you. There are times when 'making progress' is important.

A few years ago my mother really had hours to live (the big C) and she had always said she wanted to die at home (she'd lived there for 50-odd years). The Western General isn't a great place at the best of time but there was building work on and painting! Jeez, spending your last hours listening to hammer drills and spelling paint. I managed to press the case to get her taken home - only the house was locked and the keys were at my home. The agreement was that they'd get her home in an hour or so, which would give me time to nip home for the keys then go down and open her house.

Only on the way down round the Edinburgh bypass I got a call saying the ambulance was outside the house! They'd left early. The last thing I wanted was for my mother to expire in the ambuance so I started to 'make progress'. Only as I joined the A1 from the A702, and giving folks room etc, pulled to the outside land and started to accelerate a lass in a yellow Fiat hatchback looked in her mirror and quick as a flash nipped into the outside lane and then blocked me - keeping the perfect speed of the car on the inside lane to form a rolling roadblock, smirking as she kept glancing in her mirror. So we sat for a few miles at 40-50 until she floored it to pull off. So if you know (or are) a lass with a yellow Fiat who takes joy in telling folks how she inconvenienced a driver in a blue Maserati - it wasn't smart, and it wasn't clever.

It probably only held me up for a few minutes, and my mother was still of-this-earth when I got there. I did get her back into her bed and she lasted another 12 hours or so - but I could have cheerfully throttled the lass in the yellow Fiat.

So the moral is I guess 90 out of a 100 cars wanting to 'make progess' probably just want to drive fast for the hell of it, 9 out of 100 may want to play racers, but 1 out of 100 may have a real pressing genuine life-or-death reason - so please don't intentionally hinder folks' progress out there smile
