I've always sorted this stuff out myself in the past but due to lack of time, new job and complicated circumstances (have two properties being sold to buy one) I'm looking to speak with a decent independent mortgage broker, anyone recommend any?

I tried to drop you a mail this morning with my contact details on but your profile doesn't allow emails.

Drop me an email if you'd like some help smile

Sarnie, are you open to a few questions with a view to getting a new mortgage & house move under way? My situation is slightly more complicated than average, so I could use a decent broker to guide me.

Thanks folks, didn't realize I'd set that option, I've activated PM's now so feel free to drop me a line later today (PH say server can take a while for the changes to ripple through)

thanks,

Rob

Did you get my mail? I didn't receive a copy of the mail I sent you so I'm not sure if it actually arrived....

Wouldn't recommend any.

One off here told me I couldn't get a first direct offset, even went add far as calling them. I can.

One guy wanted money up front with no guarantee he can find me anything. One guy peddled them for commission, I even had to point out other products that would be beret suited.

I thought they had some kind of direct market access or preferential rates but all it seems they duo is look on the internet. I can do that and get myself a much better deal in the process, or so it would seem.

I asked the question on here a few motnhs ago and the consensus was that a broker wouldn't necessarily get you a better deal than you could yourself, but would know where to look so you wouldn't miss something in your own search. There are some products which aren't accessible through brokers, First Direct are one aren't they?

Anyway, I got some quotes myself, HSBC came out the best as they'd fix at around 3% for 5 or 7 years, First Direct came out best for an off-set mortgage. I then popped in to see Handelsbanken and they've been superb, great rate and service, so all our banking is now with them. They're worth looking at if you have good LTV (ours is about 50%) and are looking for an unusual product. Or if you're struggling with computers coming out with the wrong answer, as they don't ask a computer whether to lend to you or not.

Our mortgage is effectively a big overdraft on our current account at 3.5%, we just have to clear the overdraft in 25 years time. It should prove to be an effective tool to stop the girlfriend spending a fortune on shoes as she'll see the huge negative balance on every statement.

Wow, that's all pretty cynical.

I've said on here numerous times that Mortgage Brokers are not some mythical beings that can wave a wand and secure you a mortgage 2% cheaper mortgage than you've got already and sort it in record time.

I've also said on here that if you have the time, inclination, experience and customer profile (strong income, low LTV, high credit score) then of course you can secure yourself a prime product with a prime lender.

However, in this case the OP has already stated;

"I've always sorted this stuff out myself in the past but due to lack of time, new job and complicated circumstances"

So it's evident that he needs to seek professional advice, so I'm not sure why you post "I wouldn't recommend any" when he clearly states that his circumstances are complicated.

I've helped numerous PH'ers on here over the last few years. The vast majority of which have been people that have been told they couldn't get a mortgage or declined by lenders due to their circumstances. I'd like to think they EVERY single one of them would recommend me.

It sounds like you feel like you've had a bad experience, but as with any industry, there are people that provide a poor service and those that don't.

Its not cynical, I am simply sharing my experience which is what the forum is for. I can understand why your being so defensive but at the end of the day the op can hear all sides and make up his own mind, maybe even reflect on his own experience after the mortgage is in place.
