Well as i revealed on another thread last weekend, I've gone and chopped in my daily clio 197 sport for a '99 3.4 996. Got it home today and really enjoyed the drive, refined and powerful is my short summary. Over the last 6 months or so the look of the early 996 has been creeping up on me and this one is in stunning condition having only done 60k, managed to speak to the previous owner (as bought from a dealer) who reassured me that a lot of the common engine issues had been sorted by an opc some time ago. Spec wise it's dead simple, extended leather, ac, rear wiper and graduated screen, anyway here's a few pics . I'm really chuffed as (hopefully) I've got a cost effective way of enjoying a 911 daily

I hope you enjoy it, looks a cracker.
Have a ponder about the tyres when you get chance, a decent set wil improve the car no end.

Agree, but these have got loads of tread, think they were fitted by the dealer prior to sale, having said that I ran my 964 on nokian rears for the first two years and if I am really honest I can't tell the difference vs the n continentals, which I now have

I hope not, I've spent a lot on it and we know they are increasing in value,

Indeed, they are only going one way and good manual C2's are getting rarer by the day.

It will be interesting to hear your comparative thoughts in a few months time.

Well done on getting the new car, still have great memories of my 98 3.4 years ago.
It should be no surprise it's a good drive, they had a great write up when they came out.

Very nice, can't believe you swapped a 197 for it though. Enjoy, but remember to change up before 8000rpm.

197 was fun, but i was begining to drive it like a hooligan...too often and just thought it was about time i had the joys of 911 motoring everyday

I like your approach, I've been doing what i think of as a bit of a '911 shed' thing myself - not spending so much that I feel I have to cherish it and worry about using it, breaking it or de-valuing it. I've always ran a few cars and motorbikes at the same time. I always ended up in the wrong car for a given situation, not anymore, the 911 (it's a 996) does everything very very well - is ok for a commute, good on a long run, fabulous down the twisties.

Very true, the hooligan thing, my R27 seems to like three wheeling better than four, i wouldn't trust the pork in the same way. Excellent choice on the garage queen (if that's what it is), i parted with my 964 eleven years ago and still miss it.
