After much deliberation I have found a GTS and a very nice Gen 1 Turbo with PCM 3 and centre lock alloys.

The GTS is one year old and has 5k on the clock the Turbo is 3.5 years old with 32k but has the extended warrenty. Both cars are the same price and have a lot of options ticked.

After coming from an M3, the GTS does not seem that bigger step forward, although it is lovely to drive, whereas a Turbo is going to be a hell of a lot faster. I know speed is not everything but I do a lot of motorway driving so it is nice to know that I could do 190+ should the mood take me.

I know that they are completely different cars to drive but the one thing that left me a little wanting after driving the GTS was a lack of fireworks at the top end. I have never driven a Turbo but with all the extra torque will I miss revving the nuts off the car to get it moving?

Head says GTS but heart is going for the Turbo. If you had the choice, what would it be?

If you're looking for 'fireworks at the top end', then maybe you should consider a GT3.

I was, but I need four seats and only have space for one car for the moment. GT3 has been put on the backburner for a year or two.

The GT3 is a fantastic car, if you want to track it regularly , as a every day well that appeals to a special type of motorist driving

Turbo - the best value supercar money can by these day. And they are bulletproof as well. GTS sounds better but that is about it.

I would go for the GTS based on the following –

1. Newer car
2. Sounds loads better then the Turbo
3. More evolving to drive then the Turbo. The Turbo is just to easy
4. Full OPC warranty I am guessing!?
5. The GTS will do 190mph if you really want to go to that level on the motorway!

Phil

PS. This is just my opinion but I have owned a 997 Turbo and now in the GTS.

What mood would that be? "I fancy some prison food"?

GTS - It's newer, sounds amazing and will be a good deal faster than the M3 (it's something like 200kg lighter) as well as cheaper to run than the Turbo ..... actually I think that they're the best all round 997 and it's what I probably should have bought instead of my C2S or GT3!

Surprisingly not. I met one on the Autobahn last summer and from 50 to my limiter it was only the tiniest bit faster but round a track it will be a lot better.

It's bloody difficult to choose. I was going with the GTS because it is newer, sounds better and is more involving to drive but having said that, a Turbo will still be a lot more communicative than the M3 was plus it will be hugely fast which is appealling, in a narrower way. Another thing going against the Turbo is the colour, black on black and I really don't like black cars. Having said that the GTS is white and that is also less than perfect. Oh to be able to spec a Porsche from new!

Oh, the prison food is not really need. The nearest derestricted Autobahn is approximately 4km from the flat.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Or if you spend a moment not trying to be smart, you look on his profile and realise that he's not in the UK!

I think my heart would be saying GTS and head saying Turbo but I haven't driven either frown

What would your spec be for the GTS? And how much is the White GTS you are looking at?

For the last couple of months Gen 1 Turbos were produced, centre locks were offered as an option in Germany as far as I can tell, along with PCM 3.

The GTS and Turbo are both advertised for mid 80s.

Watch you don't get ripped mate. 81K will get you into a 2010 plate Turbo S from OPC.

I would be looking at a loaded GTS2 in the 60's and no more.

There are some highly specced 2009 Turbo cars out there in the low 70's if you shop around.

I went down the Turbo PDK route as I thought it was better value than the GTS.
