....If you want waking up in the morning, try black ice + unexpected oversteer yikes

No damage done but I think I 'pinched' a hole in my seat!

In the days before speed cameras, I was once on the A30 heading down to Redruth. Somewhere around Bodmin moor, doing about 120 in the pissing rain and howling gale (probably not a great idea to be honest), I hit some standing water at the same time as a huge gust of wind.

I found myself looking straight ahead down the road... through the passender window... thinking "hmmmmm, I suspect this isn't going to turn out well"

I ended up doing at a complete 360 at 120 mph but for some unfathomable and incredible reason, didn't hit anything and managed to regain control and carry on. I remember vividly, looking at myself in the rear view and seeing my face, and I swear it looked like all blood had been drained from my head. I was white as a sheet!

Drove like a nun for the next few days!

Don't these C2s have all sorts of electronic gimmickry to sort out this sort of inconvenience?

Loving the 120mph spin story that would have looked epic!

Done the same thing going the other way back on the dual carriageway after Bodmin - but in a 10 year Merc C200. Not good and mrs rlw not at all keen. Mind you, there are no speed cameras yet on that bit..........

I have just bought a Fiat 500 Abarth Essesse with a 190bhp upgrade (car weighs 1035kgs) and agreed to lend it to a potential customer, who had planned to pick it up yesterday afternoon as she had to give back the basic Clio she's been borrowing from a friend.

I get two picture messages from her in the morning showing where the Clio rear bumper got damaged as she spun on ice and hit a tree. It was very light as it happened but shook her up a bit (as she'd been going so slow) and made me rather nervous about lending her the crazy little turbo-nutter-b@stard Fiat. Err, I still did though....it's merely a coincidence that I find her incredibly attractive, honest. wink

I was driving through Brussels earlier this year and hit an oil/diesel spill entering a tunnel. Luckily it was a two way tunnel and not a single lane one so I had more room to catch it, if not I would've oversteered into the wall! eek

And don't mention the 120MPH oversteer moment at the Nurburgring going down Fuchsrohre which is quite narrow! Time for new shreddies and my passenger having to puke when we got back to the paddock! biglaugh

Let's just hope she returns the favour when she writes it off! wink

I had mine going through Belgium, back from a viewing trip to Spa from the Nürburgring. Going fast, to get back there before touristenfahr opening time.

Coming down over a bridge, the separation was fine on entering the bridge, not so when exiting.
The car kind of lifted in the springs, then settled, and all seemed fine, untill it then caught maybe a truck rut or something, and the back end started going lose wearing left. wheels did not let go fully and I was fine by keeping my foot in it and steering it in the right direction - but at 260 km/h it's not exactly the most pleasant experience.

My friend just looked at me, and asked if we in the future could try and negotiate Belgium at a slightly less keen speed.

Electric gizmos can't do much when the ground is covered in ice and a car is travelling at speed - glad the OP is ok !

I had a similar moment in my car when I hit diesel - kids were in the back playing their Nintendo DS's and as the car snaked down the road I was papping it...got to the end of the snaking and looked in my mirror to see if the kids were alright...my son pipes up "dad drive carefully you made me drop my stylus!"

I tried to convince my daughter not to mention anything to her mum...she promised she wouldn't but as soon as we got inside it was "MUM, DAD WAS GOING FAST AND NEARLY CRASHED HIS CAR"...

Kids hey !

Hit black ice in my Impreza Turbo many years ago, joining the M5 where I'd least expect it. Was overtaking a Disco & luckily was only doing 50-60mph as I had the OH & the kids in the car, I didn't brake or correct in any way, think the 4WD must have sorted it out.

Takes me back to when...day two of my Subaru Impreza Turbo WRX STI Type RA. biggrin At a junction, slightly damp (early morning) and an ever-so-slight crest; floored it to go straight on and did a perfect 180. Ended up in exactly the same spot, just pointing the wrong way! Thankfully no other traffic around and me wondering where my 4WD had gone. I soon learned how to adjust the centre console adjuster thingy for the drive bias...

Without studs winter tires are pretty much useless on ice.

I was following a black 991 on Friday evening and he was driving it erratically in freezing weather. Coming out of a tightish roundabout he floored it mid apex, and my cheeks clenched!

The car twitched about 3 times yawning about, say, a foot each time, but the electronics brought it back as the driver kept his foot flat.

Driving god using the tech or naive fool? The car saved him this time, but it can't change the laws of physics!
