Last time I went to the NEC bike show it was the launch or start of the Yamaha R1!! Tend to go to the Ally Pally replacement venu the Excel.

Last time I went Carl Fogarty was still WSB champion and I went to check out several possible bikes, which resulted in the CBR600F I still have! Not sure I wanted to be reminded how long ago that was!!!

Oh yes remember it well, I also met Steve Spray and Trevor Nation there plus they both signed a photograph of each of them that I took at Brands Hatch then developed the photos myself in my then dark room.

Steve Spray, Trevor Nation and Ron Haslam were fantastic. I will never forget the big Rotary Norton trouncing the big boys. Fantastic sound with the tailpipe glowing cherry red as it rushed into the corners with no engine braking. I still have a couple of seasons of the BSB series (or whatever it was called then) on video somewhere which includes the JPS and Duckhams Norton's; I must transfer them to DVD.

I recall Ron Haslam being drafted into the team at short notice. Got his first test ride on the Wednesday before the race on Sunday. Had to paint his leathers black (JPS team) as there was not time to get some made. Led for most of the race but finished second (I think). I was in the Paddock Hill bend stands at Brands and the atmosphere was electric. We had all heard the story of the build up to the race and to see a British rider, leading a race on a British bike that he had first ridden a few days before, hammering into Paddock Hill bend, passing everyone else (they were engaged in the girly braking nonsense), was a moment I will never forget. The whole grandstand were on their feet cheering. It moistens the eyes now to recall it.

I have the MCN poster of the JPS Norton's hanging on my wall here. Signed by Steve and Trevor, sadly Trevor's signature has faded rather badly.

It says 1989 on the poster...

Interesting how many S owners have the same fond memories.

Had a good day at show yesterday sitting on all the
bikes my last bike was a yzf 750 so fast i do miss it,
can i get a bike in the garage as well as the S ?
but went out in the S today in the wet and cold
and it was heaven So think it has to be the S for now

Apart from meeting up with Gozzy and Hicky I thought it was disappointing, 320 mile round trip and I could have seen most of it with a dealer tour around B'mth, won't be going again

its not as big now , not been for several years
so it was nice to have a look around I had just under 300
mile round trip and M11 & A14 closed on the way home so
took 5 hours to get home,in the dark and ice in the S
happy days
