Repairing a Nikon D-50
Discussion
Gentlemen (and ladies);
I have fallen out of love with my Nikon - it was been dropped and as such has a damaged case. Also there is a nasty smudge on one of the mirrors.
Are there any good Nikon repairers / servicing agents who can make my camera like new?
Also, I still have the original DX lens as my base lens. Can anyone recommend a replacement?
Thanks,
Irish

Depends on budget, but something like a D80, whilst not a new camera, will be a very nice upgrade on a D50, whilst still retaining similar menu systems etc. Will be able to pick a goodun up second hand for between £200-300 with a lens, less for just the body.
I just purchased a D5000 which is basically the "entry level" version of the d90. Cracking camera but I wish it had the more pro focus menu and button system of the d80/d90. Hunting through menus to find settings is a chore sometimes. I got my D5000 for £300 second hand, although was literally packaged as new and sealed. Looked like an unwanted present.

To answer the original question, IIRC it costs nothing to ship it off to Nikon UK and get a quote for what needs to be done. Obviously it's likely to be a tonne or so.
In the meantime have a look at the D7000. £565 for a secondhand one with warranty from Grays would be a big step forward. IMHO
