Any opinions (good, bad or indifferent) on these anyone? Got a mate who's looking to upgrade from a Golf GTi ...

General running costs, servicing, cam belts, fun factor, reliability etc.

Cheers for any info.

Well, it looks marginally better than a Multipla.

I took one for a test drive 3 years ago. Very nippy indeed compared to normal Gti's - it would leave them for dust. There's a bit of turbo lag though. I floored it when trundling along at 20 and nothing much happened, then it thrust

I did a back to back comparison with a friend's 20v Turbo Coupe and my Impreza Turbo about 3 years ago - the Fiat was horrible after the Impreza with more turbo lag and dreadful understeer, but when it got going it was reasonably quick, but if you want something for the twisties then go drive an Impreza

Just got one, three weeks ago. Cam belt went day 2, fixed by fiat dealer, paid for by seller. Since then - wow - it does have lag, but I'm learning how to employ that kick at 3500rpm. It feels very quick (and i dont hang about in the Tuscan), will attack corners if you have got the bottle (understeers a bit if you havent) and is thoroughly enjoyable.Would rate it 1000% over golf GTI which I have done some miles in. Also, a bit of a Q ship - Boxstsxsters dont know what hit em! (ps cam belt went at 36000 mls - manual says 60 - suggest you check if/when it was done). Aircon is Arctic! After renewing brake fluid - grabbers are very good, not used to the ABS playing with me though.Who invented that rubbish? (abs I mean)

I've had a 20 v Turbo LE for a couple of months and I love it. The LE has a 6 speed box, better seats brembo brakes, body bits and some other cosmeticy stuff.

One of the few cars I've driven thats had me grinning all over my face.

very firm ride so a bit uncomfortable on bumpy roads but sounds great when you give it some welly.

Will sit at a ton in sixth at 3500 revs (redlines at 7k) with very little wind noise and with the aircon long journeys are no trouble whatsoever. The long journey's I've done in an imprezza turbo were a different ball game and I ended up a bit knackered.

Mines red as all italian cars should be
