Having just let my gorgeous Turbo II go I'm keen to bounch back into a porker of some variety and a 968 would suit me just fine, but there seem to be so few around these days, where di they all go !

I don't think there's ever been that many around, do you have any particular model/spec in mind ??

Ideally a coupe, leather and air con, everything else is negotiable

Go for a Clubsport in a good colour hoges.

Having sold my 964 Turbo in July I know that's the only 968 that could keep me interested.

I think it would feel special enough (albeit not sound that special) to be a good summer toy, if that's how you would use it and of course it would be a safe bet moneywise for some relatively free motoring. smile

A 968 Clubsport is still on my list of cars to own at some point. Maybe in a couple of years hopefully.

I remember your 964. Silver with the red leather iirc? Did you sell privately and get what you wanted?

I've briefly owned a 968 ClubSport and it was a fantastic steer. I doubt they're worth the premium over a standard coupé though and if air con is a must then obviously the CS is not for you. They are in limited numbers though, especially for lower mileage, well maintained ones so it's case of being patient and scouring the classifieds. If I could fit all the gear I need to occasionally in the boot I'd have one as my daily to compliment my SC. As it is, I'm looking at Cayenne Turbos.

Rare. A loaded Coupe like this was £45k in 1992/2* so you can count the number of sales on one hand, and survivors are even fewer. Dealers were encouraged to buy '68s for stock, so they tended to be vanilla Sports, the most common variant. There are Sports with air around if you wait.

*For those who were still in short trousers, the world economy was on the floor in the early 90s.

There were only 306 sports made.

I know of a sub-50,000 mile Club Sport offered in the trade a few days ago, just had £6k spent on suspension brakes clutch & flywheel etc. It won't be cheap, but sounds like an exceptional car. PM if it sounds like it might fit the bill. smile

All UK market cars.

Currently 12 non-cab rhd 968s on PHs now. Of these 8 are Sports(6) or Clubsports, and of the 4 Coupes, 2 are Tip. So this supports my suggestion that the Sport is the most commonly seen variant - and all seem to have no options.

Most cs are in collectors hands and in storage and lots of coupes have been scrapped.

Your best bet is to join the 968uk forum and ask around if any members are selling. I know this because its exactly what I did and I'm picking mine up next week. Its a hell of a job trying to find one with low miles and a good history in exactly the spec you are after, especially if you are want a Coupe with air con.
I went after a car with the best history and mileage for my budget, and luckily it was very close to the spec I was after.

I bought My Sport (with full Factory M030 Options) via an approach on the PCGB Forum, so it never saw the open market when I mentioned changing to one from my 944 Turbo (that was sold directly to a PCGB member so never saw the open market either)

Met an unfortunate end last week in the bad weather :'(

Inspector coming today to tell me whether it is a write-off or not, so there will probably be one less 968 Sport on the roads...

According to this there are only 650 UK taxed 968s of all types: http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=✓&am... Only 100CSs, 190 Sports and similar number of Coupes. These are increasingly rare cars now.

By contrast, the same site shows 1500 944S2s and Turbos.

I love my Sport daily driver and am not selling it any time soon! Not sure I'd be too fussed about aircon (I'm sure it could be retro fitted) nor mileage - mine drives amazingly at 132k miles. Leather seats could also be retro fitted too. Good regular maintanance and having records of the key jobs having been done recently is far more important in my opinion. They are 17-20 year old cars and will show their age if not looked after.

There is a clean looking Sport in red advertised at Hartech I see.

OP, good choice but is this a weekend toy or daily driver? Choosing the right model is important, the coupe is more refined, heavier and not as sharp through the bends, which in my opinion is what you buy a 968 for. A lot of people (probably owners) talk up the Club Sport but bear in mind the Sport left the factory as a Club Sport and was subsequently upgraded with a few extra's by Porsche GB to make them easier to use every day.
So for investment a Club Sport, for every day use and the same performance and dynamics as a CS but £3-4k less go for a Sport, for cruising the Coupe. No idea why anyone would buy a Tip but some people obviously like them and so they can be viewed as the bargain of the bunch.
I am currently thinking about selling my TVR Tuscan and my 968 Sport and combining weekend toy and daily driver for a 993 or 996, tempting though either are I cant help feeling the 968 will do the job better at much less cost. Would like to hear from anyone who has gone from a 968 as a daily driver to a 993 daily driver to persuade me either way though.
Happy hunting.

The Hartech car has done a few miles I think. Still looks really good though.

It obviously depends on how flexible you are prepared to be with your requirements and what your budget is. First thing I would do is forget about AC unless you dont mind looking for 12 months.

I know of an extremely well sorted, low mileage concours car with everything you want but its a lot of money. Alternatively theres a couple of complete bargains out there but you would have to compromise on spec. Give us an idea of your budget and maybe I can point you in the right direction.......
