997 window likes going down
Discussion
Hi Chaps,
On my 997 C4S, A few times when I have locked the car and come back the windows are open. Obviously this is not ideal in the rain or that I park on the street.
I can't find the thread but is this known fault? Has it got something to do with a relay switch....
Car has P warranty so will take in next week if not simple fix.
Thanks

A window going down on its own does not read like a switch problem by itself. On my 997 C4S, A few times when I have locked the car and come back the windows are open. Obviously this is not ideal in the rain or that I park on the street.

The couple of times I've observed abnormal window behavior: the window going down when opening the door then going up again once open; the window not going down when pulling on either the inner or outer door handle; the window not dropping the full measure when opening the door or dropping very slowly; have all been traced to a bad door lock assembly; a bad door handle switch; a bad door latch switch; and window regulators.
A window going down without any interaction suggests a possible water leak that is letting water in the door. This at first results in inexplicable electrical gremlins with the door lock and window but if ignored the gremlins start appearing at more distant locations.
Give the doors a shake listening for any water sloshing. Feel along the bottom of the doors and the carpets on the floor for any dampness.
With rain body drains get blocked from the build up of leaf/plant trash and water can overflow into the cabin.
The other thing you can do will probably have to do is take the car to a shop that can connect a PIWIS2 diagnostics computer and give the security/door/window systems a checkout.
It may be a switch or maybe a combination of switch and assembly but unless you are a good guesser you can replace a lot of expensive hardware for naught.

This is all news to me - I never even knew I could lower the windows with the key remote! How is this done? Do I double click the button or something?
Push the open button and keep held and the windows should drop. Hold the closed button continually and they should rise again.Just had the neighbours round because mine had done exactly the same thing.
Been working from home today with key in my pocket, so pleased to find this thread.
Stupid design. Cayman was forever unlocking itself, but this windows trick is a new one on me. Now it advertises it's unlocked...... Magic

You can code the comfort settings to the "OFF" position, this will turn of the window feature completely.

According to my local OPC no(not much faith in them during their transistional phase), this would be great as it's very annoying. If it is a design fault and the new key is the solution then surely the warranty should cover it?Chris
