Anyone know this 996TT?
Discussion
I've never even sat in a 911, let alone taken a 996 turbo out for a drive, but this has caught my eye. Colour is not every ones cup of tea and I prefer the original twist alloys, but wondered if anyone knows this car or been to see it?

Been on the market for ages - started at about 28k I think.
Older car - prefacelift so you don't get a glovebox, huge dealbreaker! Actually I think there are some other fairly minor changes too.
Looks nice, new clutch, check the rads, 2nd gear etc. Not a popular colour (yet grey is?) and they clearly want it sold. If it was closer I'd go and see it.
Well worth a look I'd think.

Without doubt worth viewing looks a sharp car to me, again change the wheels.
If all stacks up with those miles hand in pocket time.
No glove box!!
Wouldn't be on my radar these days if i was buying, it would be all about miles/history and most importantly condition, you can easily spend 5-10k on "bits and bobs" on these so do the checks

Whats the deal with 2nd? And the rads - corrosion? Any decent buyers guides around?
Apparently its only done 2.5k in the last two years and was last serviced at 49k, i.e. more than 2 years ago - any particular issues with low miles?
Any known reputable specialists in the Derbyshire area that could do an inspection?

The Turbo i have just bought has just had 8k spent on it, and that is a low mile 58k car.
New K16 Turbo's x 2
New Rads
New Condensers
New Turbo actuators
New Clutch accumulator
Discs/pads
Brake pipes all round
Wheels refurbed/tyres
4 wheel geo
etc etc
Boy does it drive nice though.
But yes on the face of it these cars can look good, tick the boxes before buying there are lots available, forget how old, as in relative terms they are all old now, buy on condition and how it drives.
Don't worry so much about feckin glove compartment's FFS, something i don't really tend to consider when buying a Supercar.

Have a look on the net Rix also do a search on here there's loads of info about 6T's, i'm on my second and if you get a nice one they are epic cars.Apparently its only done 2.5k in the last two years and was last serviced at 49k, i.e. more than 2 years ago - any particular issues with low miles?

Main issues
Rads/Condensers as they are prone to stone chip damage behind front bumper.
Heat shields on exhaust and Turbo
Eat clutches if abused
Check for any whining in diff and also how noisy the timing chain is?? can get stretched if been revved very hard.
Check rev ranges there are 2 on the 996
Check all history and make sure there are receipts to back up work done.
You have to remember they are near enough 200 mph sub 4 second to 60 cars priced in the 20's!!
There is a lot of abused cars out there.

2x new turbos at 58k? Unlucky or typical? I understand that this kind of car has the potential to throw some big bills, but generally speaking, they're fairly tank like, no?
They are compared with the Carrera's in 996 form. All the GT cars and the Turbo 996's have the GT1 bottom end so don't suffer from the IMS failure.
But fairly bullet proof

It looks nice from the exterior but the grey interior doesn't go with guards IMO, think you need black. I think someone was interested in this some time ago and was asking what specialists were nearby. Not sure how far that person looked into the car but he was recommended Zentrum which is a nearby good specialist. They may know the car so might be worth giving them a call. Have a look at it, if you like and it seems good get it inspected. May save yourself 1000's!!!http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-PORSCHE-911-TURBO-R...
I think the spec may be seriously hurting its sale potential, but I actually quite like it. No mention of sat nav either but I really wouldn't care less. Been doing a bit of buyers guide reading, all pretty encouraging stuff. Never had a car inspected professionally but then again never spent that kind of money on a 12 year old 6 owner car! - think it could be a wise investment. Noticed the pics in the ad a re not current (the tax disc is 8/11) which isn't exactly a positive, but sure it could be a good car. Shame it's a such a trek away!
