Does any one have a 996 with after market suspension
Discussion
Hi
Thinking of buying a 996 Turbo, had a few Porsche's and know what their all about. Probably end with something about 20-25K and look to do some mods.
The car won't be a daily driver, more a weekend toy. Currently have a CSL and love the handling. So first mods would be exhaust and suspension to something a little more focused on cornering speed and less on comfort, probably go for an easily adjustable setup for road and track use(5 track days and few euro hoons a year)
Really like the idea of a 450-500 BHP Porsche with a sorted suspension, budget doesn't stretch to a GT3 before anyone mentions it and would use the rear seats of the turbo occasionally
Has anyone else gone down a similar route, more interested in suspension setup than BHP, but interested to hear from anyone whose gone down any sort of performance mods ?

My car has a switchable 9ff exhaust, adjustable kw suspension and a few other bits and pieces plus a remap. Suspension is currently very low and quite hard as its set up for the track. I am considering having it softened a bit so the GF doesn't complain quite so much about the ride and to make it a bit easier to get over speed bumps
Hi
I had KW3 set up plus poly bushes, top mounts etc done on my old 996 Turbo S. I had it set for fast road use using a Beissbath geo - totally transformed it if I'm honest. Far less 'baggy', cornered much flatter, more stable at high speeds although there was a touch more harshness on the bumpy stuff. More towards a GT3. Lovely thing about the KW3 set up is it is totally adjustable so you can make it feel how you want. However I don't know for sure, but if you're not going on track I would image the standard KW kit is more than enough to make a significant difference and would save you a fair chunk of cash.
Call me a big girl, but never felt the need for more power in the turbo!
Cheers

My Turbo has Techart suspension and handles sublimely IMO in wet or dry on track. SCoM claim to have done the geo last.
I also have GT3 brakes, shortshifter and DMS stage 2 to 500+. Also run it on AD08's on track. Track wheels are turbo hollow 18's and road wheels are 19" Techart with PSS2's.
Very fast and capable of some lairy fun. Gives most things more than a few surprises including GT3's, atoms, tuned GTR's, etc.

I had a 996 turbo with blistein pss10 coil overs with gt2 roll bars and a parr stage one geo set up, it also had six pot brakes, Dms remap and tubi exhaust, great car and handled very well, BUT I now have a 997 Gt3 and it is so much better, it makes you realise how heavy the turbo actually was.
The bottom line is there are improvements you can make, but if you want Gt3 handling you need to get a gt3.

Thanks for the info, but the 997 GT3 is significantly more expensive than a modded Turbo and I can't justify the costThe bottom line is there are improvements you can make, but if you want Gt3 handling you need to get a gt3.
I've already had a Cayman S and enjoyed the experience, but I found it a bit slow(flame suit on), I'm use to a car with a fair chunk of power. I have also considered modifying a Cayman S with engine mods, but after looking into it, I fancy the turbo having never owned one, I've owned a 911 C2 manual in the past, but want the next level performance which 450-500 bhp gives you.
The trouble with modifying cars is you lose a lot of money when you come to sell it, the Cayman would require a lot engine work/money to get the sort of shove I'm after. The turbo doesn't and you reinstall the OEM suspension when moving to something else, sell the after market suspension and not lose a shed load of money and still have one of the fastest things on the road without spending a fortune
