I have to replace one of my rear tyres frown

Would it be dangerous to drive with one rear tyre at 5mm and the other brand new?

All tyres are Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Thanks in advance

No - had to do it in my C2S after an un-repairable puncture, couldn't tell the difference TBH?

Put the new tyre on the nearside and have some fun on a quiet roundabout (for scientific purposes obviously) until they're even! wink

Porsche replaced the rear after a puncture - no problem.

Porsche recommends tires be replaced in pairs if the difference between a new tire and the one on the other side is 30% or more.

In one case I had an insurance company pay to replace both tires even though the difference was 15%.

+1. And I wouldn't entertain running any performance car with tyres which have been puncture repaired or replacing just one tyre, especially 1x rear on a 911.

I've just stuck on a new pair due to a rear puncture. Whilst it's 5mm and 8mm I don't expect any danger. However, I didn't fancy the idea of them being at 5mm and 2mm respectively in heavy rain(which they would be after a few more miles).

Good call!

I have ordered two now, the one with 5mm will be going on ebay.

have you got a Limiited slip diff ?

If so I would be wary about running tyres with a different rolling distance on opposite sides .

It ain't going to do the diff. Much good .

I'll have a tire fixed if the tire is otherwise serviceable and I can find a shop that will fix the tire. Almost all dealers I come in nowadays contact no longer fix flats. Some indy tire shops are reluctant too when the tire is on my Turbo.

As for the 30% difference in the new tire's diameter vs. the tire on the other side when one tire of a pair has to be replaced, that comes from Porsche which doesn't make tires.
