Driving along the M74 this morning, rain chucking it down, spray horrendous and there lit up atthe side of the road are the signs saying "Heavy Rain Forecast".

No sh sherlock!!!

So Amey / TS, please can you enlighten me what do you expect to achieve by telling drivers in Scotland that heavy rain is forecast? Do you think we won't make a journey because of it? Do you think we will take an anorak instead of just wearing our flip flops , shorts and T shirt?

Rant over..... for now!

Exactly .. some of these signs post up the most ridiculous messages ever ..

You can actully go online and see what they're all saying anytime here - http://trafficscotland.org/vms/

I particularly love "DRIVE CAREFULLY" "DRIVE EFFICIENTLY" "IN TOWN SLOW DOWN" AND "KEEP YOUR WINDSCREEN CLEAR" Dammit, I was all for covering my windscreen with mud, speeding through villages at 50, in first gear of course, and weaving all over the road .. spoilsports!

How much do these things costs to constantly post up crap like this?

Funny thing is you rarely see the sensible message in those conditions "Put your dipped headlights on you T##T"

My personal favourite is "Can you depend on your spare tyre?".

Being middle aged and a bit on the overweight side, I think it's safe to say my spare tyre is going to be dependable for quite a while biggrin

Perhaps you should start a thread asking what messages people would most like to see!!

Mine would be:

Middle lane morons will have thier cars burned and their licences withdrawn for life. Please move to the left lane!

just read through some of those, how the feck are you meant to check your tyre pressures at 56mph in the centre lane??? some messages should be "merc/bmw drivers, you do not own the middle lane" or "the speed limit is a maximum not a target" or in addition to the "caution risk of deer on road" should add on the next sign, "ensure space on freezer for roadkill venison"

Fixed that.

"Think public transport is my favourite"

The last time I used public transport it took me 2 1/2 hours to get from Falkirk to Alloa. 2 buses and a train costing me about £6 or £7.

In the car it takes me 20 mins and 15 on the bike costing me a few quid in petrol. Its really a no brainer.

That's the only decent one i've ever seen actually used on the roads. It should be on every single one and would make life so much better.

I like "Red X is mandatory"

They are forcing us to use fuel additives! Obviously sticklers for clean injection systems.

Or

''The A82 is closed between Obscurenonexistantvillage and Neverfinheardofit bewtten 10pm and 6am for seven days''

Really helpful at 70mph on the M74 south of glasgow!

This year, they've erected two of these gantries Eastbound on the M8 between Newbridge and Hermiston Gait. Yet there already was a gantry there, so I don't quite see what the other two are there for apart from pointless messages. It's not like you can be told of trouble at Hermiston on the first screen and turn off earlier. I passed them today and it was something like "DON'T ADJUST SAT NAV WHILE DRIVING" and "DON'T USE MOBILE PHONES WHEN DRIVING". Pointless!

And like it's been said, sometimes the traffic news is irrelevant. I was using the bypass and M8 a lot earlier this year and it kept telling me about problems on the M73!

My Personal favorite is the one at Aviemore, i recently saw it read "drive on the left" being that its over 40 miles from the nearest airport you've done well to make it that far!!
