There you go, it's finally happened. The bd child of the FA that is MK Dons will play AFC Wimbledon in the 2nd round of the FA cup. Apparently AFC Wimbledon fans won't be attending as that would give MK Dons legitimacy.

Good luck AFC Wimbledon!

I was going to start a thread on this actually. I fully understand and support the AFC Wimbledon ethos of being, why they exist, their club, their fanbase etc and they have done terrifically well since their inception.

However, for the life of me I don't understand the attitude of them when they say they are going to boycott the fixture?

Would they not want to turn up and make the most noise they possibly can?

It's a funny one, that, as they have fantastic support. I went to their first ever league match vs Sandhurst in the Combined Counties league and there were about 2,000 of them all making a great racket.

I guess they were so pissed off with the initial move to MK that they feel by going up there it is going to legitimise the club.

Out of interest, has anyone been to an MK Dons match? Do they have their own songs? I can't imagine the atmosphere is that great.

My problem with AFC is that they did a very similar thing to the MK Dons.

They're not based in Wimbledon. They moved in to and have now taken Kingstonian's ground. At least Dons moved into an area that needed a team - granted, they shouldn't have been allowed to start in League 1.

But I don't feel any sympathy for AFC Wimbledon. Only for Kingstonian.

I think they did spend ages trying to get a place in Wimbledon but couldn't and, as such, ended up buying Kingstonians ground.

That's interesting. I have no clue on the local geography - what's the deal? Can you give more info or background? Just interested like smile

I've read a little into it and Kingstonian don't appear to be shafted as much as I thought. It seems their ground was sold as part of an asset stripping and AFC took this opportunity to buy the place but they do still allow Kingstonian to play on it.

But still, the whole idea of AFC Wimbledon was to start fresh. Instead they just leeched onto another team a few miles away and then bought the ground on the cheap when things started going bad for Kingstonian.

There is talk of them buying the greyhound track in Wimbledon and moving back to their 'spiritual home', but how truthful their statements are, I'm not too sure given they keep spending on the current ground.

Afc bought the ground & Kingstonian still play there i believe. Being a resident in Merton as i am the council were of little help in finding Wimbledon fc a site to build upon, the only realistic option was the dog track just along the road in plough lane , would have been a bit of a nightmare to be honest, Kingstonian's ground was probably the only option for them & it's about, i'd say 4 or 5 miles from Wimbledon town centre. The new development at tooting & mitcham's ground in mitcham ( chelsea's former training ground & crystal Palace's too ) may have been a better option but i'm sure that's heavily funded by merton council. I'm sure well, i know AFC would love to return to Merton but its never going to happen

Yes, went a couple of years ago to watch MK Dons v my team, Yeovil Town.

You're spot on regarding with the atmosphere... there was about 8,000 there the night I went and it was eerily quiet compared to most places I went that season. It doesn't help that the stadium still appears half finished and the noise seems to vanish from the ground through the gaps between the finished tier and the unfinished tier.

Can't remember whether they had any songs but the seats are apparently quite comfy. I was in the press box so had an excellent view but didn't sample the comfortable seats though.

The stadium is as finished as it will be until and unless they get promoted. The current configuration seats 22000. If the current upper tier was fully fitted out it would seat 32000 and there is room to add another tier raising it to 45000. With an average attendance of 8500 it would be madness to pay for 10-23000 seats that would never get sat on.

I live in MK and have never been (can't abide football though) but the Mrs has been a couple of times with my son.

Wasn't it going to be one of the World Cup grounds if we had got it and then they were going to fill the top tier in with seats?

Regarding comfy seats I am pretty sure they are the same as at the Emirates stadium, very comfy indeed.

Indeed it was, would be a UEFA Category 4 Stadium if fully completed. Was also in the Olympic proposal I believe but not used.

Sure, I wasn't having a dig at them. It's sensible to do it the way they are but it certainly affects the atmosphere having what resembles a building site for a ground.

They're actually working on it at the moment. I went to Dons V Stevenage a few weeks ago and it looks like they are adding executive boxes around the whole of the stadium above the second tier. The second tier is ready, just needs the seats installed when (/if) they are required.

Their atmosphere is only poor because they aren't real fans - I'd love to know who they all supported before being gifted a league 1 team. A lot of noise can be created from that first tier as we did a few weeks ago and in the FA Cup 2 years ago (when we spoiled the chance of AFC vs MK biggrin).

I go to a few MK Dons games each season with the son in Law ,he is a spurs fan and i support Everton , we both live 30mins from the ground ,its just an easy place to get to and park, and never have trouble getting tickets.and the stadium is very good, i think it has a lot of money from MK council. yes we support them as a secound club , if you can do that , but its not the same as cheering on your number one team ,a lot of young kids there with there dads ,so maybe its the youngsters, one and only club , but i doubt it.

I too would never go to MK Dons ground.
The idea of franchise football left a sour taste in the mouth.

Pointless exersize and won't change history. Why not go the other way and take as many supporters as possible to spur your team on to a win.
