The absolute sts that we are buying our house from would prefer to bin the carpets than leave them for us. (they don't need them, they are moving to a new-build show home). Just petty point-scoring.

So, I will have an entire house with no carpets, and need a recommendation for a decent carpet supplier/fitter. I'll be talking about the low-end of price/quality, as the whole house will be redecorated over the coming years (we are here for the long haul) and therefore the carpets will be replaced but I need some flooring in the meantime!

Anyone you can recommend? We are near Coventry, Solihull, Leamington, that sort of way. I'm thinking (probably) some sort of carpet warehouse place, but it's been years since I bought carpet. Thanks.

Depending on size of rooms ,it might be worth looking for ends of rolls. I'm lucky in that my house has small rooms and I can carpet mine cheaply this way.Friend of mine who was a carpet fitter reckoned that it was worth while looking at the top end of Folleshill road in Coventry . I've never tried, but who knows . I use United Carpets in Nuneaton, but from website they are part of the Carpet right chain, with branches round Warks .

We used Godiva carpets in Warwick a year or so ago, they also have a place in Coventry

We got reasonable carpets at a good price, and good service from the fitters (bought lots of carpet and had it fitted in several stages as we did up each room)

I've bookmarked this as I'll be needing new carpets in the next few months, hopefully I'll be able to get a cheap off cut for what will be my office as it is a tiny room and I'm not that fussed about colour etc.

I used Direct Carpets in Balsall Common, really good fitter. Worth a ring anyway to see what they can do if you explain what you want.

I guess the issue you'll have is if you are trying to do the whole house now cheaply with off cuts and end of rolls it's unlikely any of it will match, if that's a consideration. Would you not be better to get at least some of it decorated and lay the right carpet?

Maybe. But I am just conscious of the need to get something down asap, rather than having 2 small kids running around / falling over on bare floorboards.

Update on Universal carpets ( nuneaton branch), which is a bit of a pig to get to from Balsall Common, but they're doing a no fitting charge on non stair carpets ( provided you buy underlay) at moment. We were looking a stairs, till the fine print came out( approx £60 for their contractors to do a stair). But they've got some decent sized off cuts at moment.

Do not use the large chains... the fitters are not vetted in any way and the underlay prices are a joke. (never pay more than £4 a yard for a top quality underlay wink

I'm in Solihull and wanted a reasonable but cheap carpet as we're selling our house.

Everyone locally recommends "Abdullahs" but last time I went there, there were no prices and I got the feeling the prices went up if you were white.

I took a drive into Sparkhill and had an excellent deal from a place on the main Stratford road.

They were 25% cheaper than any of the "warehouses" and I got a decent quality carpet for £9/m2 and they have stuff from £4/m2 and are sensible on the fitting (lounge, stairs and landing £75)
