Hi All,

Have had a search and some of this has been covered last year but usually find opinions change year by year so here goes...

I have a 2005 997 C2S Cabriolet, which I love!

But, I've recently discovered that a normal sized person doesn't really fit in the back and a baby seat (thinking ahead) doesn't fit that well as the rear seats angle forward.

So I'm thinking coupe and 2005 ish (cheap tax, better sound and steering feel?) or 2009 ish (stronger engine and no need for Porsche warranty so can be a long termer?) - thoughts?

I guess I need to see if I can fit in the back of a coupe first.

Price difference is also 50% more from gen1 to gen2 but not so fussed if I keep it for a long time. 2wd GTS is my favourite of all the 997's but too much at present.

Thanks for any advice/tips/thoughts in advance!

J-P

997 GTS is an awesome car.

You can just about fit an adult in the back of a 911 but its very tight (lack of head room and leg room for me and I'm only 5'10"). More than 30 minutes for a normal size person is too much. However, for kids, there's no problem. I'd say up to 10 years old (maybe 12 depending on height), is no issue for any distance. Any older than that and its going to be uncomfortable for them over longer distances.

Thanks J-P, another thing to consider is that I currently have the hard back seats. In my 968 I could fit my knees beside the seat in front with the narrow seat. Does this also help in a 911?

It will always be a fun car and the Golf can cope with daily trips but on occasion 2 passengers are required. Had a friend who is 5 10 ish in the back with feet on drivers side rear seat and bum passenger side rear but angle of the seat made it worse.

So Gen 1 or Gen 2 also?

Real people will still struggle to fit in a Coupe - all you really gain is some additional shoulder width .... but that aside the Gen II is the way to go. The engines don't sound as good - but are much stronger, produce more power and by my reckoning (I've had a couple of "loaners") they're 10-15% more economical!

That's pretty good, town driving I get 18mpg and a long drive to France returned 27mpg so not bad.

Really tempted by the GTS 2wd at around £50k, whenever that happens. Thought they were just over 400bhp? All the adverts on Porsche Approved Used state 380bhp so no benefit over a standard Gen 2 S?

Yep that's what I thought, so all Porsche UK Approved Used adverts are incorrect as they say 380bhp - http://ucl.porsche.de/ucl/plsql/uk/clients.show_ca...

Probably not long until they are circa £50k
