Amp or Audio Interface & Monitors?

Deciding on whether to buy myself an amp for my recently acquired Tele, or to buy an Audio interface & Monitor speaker/s.

I was recommended the Vox VT40+ modelling amp in my local store as something which would give me a good range of sounds, or alternatively an audio interface such as a Presonus audio box with a Rockit 5 monitor.

Whats the general consensus? I'm learning, playing along in the house to tracks and mastering techniques. What would give me some good effects? At the moment I'm using a Peavey Xport through headphones which is fine, if not suffering a little with latency. I didnt expect much for £35 though.

Native Instruments Guitar Rig is well thought of but no personal experience.
IK Multimedia Amplitube is nice and there is a free version of the software to try if you already have a box to get the sounds in the PC.
Line6 do software but also hardware like the POD with is an effects/amp modeller.
I use behringer VAmp (pro) on stage and for recording.

I'm sure Boss/Yamaha and the other pedal/fx makers will have similar products at a range of prices.

Personally I'd go for something stand alone to start, it's easy to carry and you don't need a pc running. A pedal type box with headphones means you can take it on the road to gigs and it will feed through to any amp you choose in the future.

I'd go for a separate amp/box of tricks as you can then upgrade change as you need to.

Years ago I had a Zoom 3030 board which I ran through an amp. Things seem to have moved on massively though, especially in amp modelling which has led me to think about using the Mac and a Rockit just to use with the Peavey Xport.

Any amp recommendations?

Now there's a personal question!

I'm a bass player so what I use is of no use to you. Guitar amps I like an AC30 but it depends on what you want to do. I guess it all depends on if it's for gigging, if you want to use the amp sim etc etc.

Take a a look at the Fender Mustang range of amps. They have a USB port on them and they supply Mac/PC software to allow you to add in stomp boxes, amp models etc. You can also get a pedal box to plug in to change settings whilst playing. I've just got one, so still figuring out all the features of which there seems loads!
