OK so I thought I would test the new Boxster, and people say the Boxster steers/feels better than the new 991
that's a scary thought having seen just how bad the electric steering is in the Boxster.
If I did that in my GT3 I would be across 3 lanes lol

It's the cars way of telling you that you're behaving like a tool.

That's the "/ignore_stupid_steering_inputs" command line switch when they compiled the firmware for the steering computer.

On the GT3 they will compile it with the "/scare_the_muppet_stless_as_he'll_think_its_sporty" option.

do we want any software on our sports cars regarding steering ?

if a kid jumped out infront of you in town at 25mph and you did a swerve you would still run them over lol

not sure how you could stand up in count and say "I did try and avoid the child who jumped out but nothing happened"

Everything is now controlled by software. We can't be trusted to drive anymore. We might crash.

So you tell the car what to do, and it reviews this against a set of parameters and does what it has been programmed to do.

This is progress.

God, that is bad!

There's about 30 degrees of "play" there. I had no idea they were like that.

I thought people were whinging about the electric steering due to feel under load etc, not play.

I found there was a defined delay when turning in - once I got my car back, I was over steering for the first few miles (threepenny biting the corners, not hanging the tail out!).

It is in no way an improvement, progress or not.

The steering wheel in the $GTS I am currently piloting does the same.

Having driven both the 981 and 991 the steering was fine and accurate. Feelsome, maybe not, but no worse than the 4GTS.

confused

Looks about 15 deg each way to me, unless you mean something else?

Not important anyway, it's still looks like an alarming amount of travel, compared to the effect it has.

I've been to the Silverstone experience day recently in a 981s. The steering was bang on. Dare I say better than my e92 m3's hydraulic steering (which is very good). I found no play whatsoever.

Video doesn't represent my experiences.

Edit-just been out to the shop in town in the m3 and I can make it look like its doing exactly the same as the video above shows. Looks visually identical but you can feel the car reacting instantly. It's just that if you wobble the wheel quickly enough one turn corrects the other immediately so it seems to do nothing to the eye.

What a load of scaremongering rubbish.
