The 'key' for the loan car (62 plate Boxster) I had yesterday was shaped like a 911. Do other people think, like me, that it is a bit gimmicky and tacky for a premier car brand?

As long as it works I dont care. I do wish they would bring keyless entry and ignition to the sports cars.

They do it as an option for the 991 but its an £800 option that is pointless in operation. The free Renualt system works better

it's way to big, no need for a key it's a bit yester year

also cannot see the new style of key lasting 20 years.
even basic 10k cars are keyless now days.

that's the anoying thing about Porsche, dated keys dated PCM units, crap bluetooth, no xenons as standard.

I think it's why I don't buy new, the base car prices are fine, but every car need 15k of options and makes the prices silly.

Agreed. Really naff. Too bulky and just plain silly to be honest. It would have made no less sense had they made it hat shaped. Or maybe a little dog, or perhaps a boat. Any of the monopoly characters would have done.

new key also prone to scuffing at the front end which goes in to ignition

once in, slightly wobbly

worse of all, metal bit is too small for standard Porsche key ring to move freely in

much prefer the key with the metal blade

Yup. I was lent one of the first two 991s from the local OPC last year. I fell over on the ice with keys in hand and made a proper mess of the fake chrome key. They were very good about it, but a proper key would not have suffered in the same way.

Regards keyless entry, for me the uncomfortable aspect is the dummy key in the ignition slot. That could entice a car thief thinking the key is in the ignition. It can be seen quite clearly in my view. Not a good design in that respect.

Pathetic

TBH, it doesn't really bother me what the key looks like so long as it doesn't fall apart like the piece of crap, low quality plastic keys issued with first gen 987s and 997s!

How about a Pagani Huayra key, a model of the car that pulls apart and half plugs into the dash? Not sure what you're supposed to do with the other half...
