I mentioned to the guy at my local OPC that I would be interested in finding out a valuation for my car and he set up a call with the 'Porsche Buyer'.

The upshot is that a guy called and gave a load of drivel before making an insulting offer for my car which has full OPC service record, current Porsche Warranty, and a no expense spared OPC history for anything an everything.

He compared my car with non-aerokit models on autotrader and tried telling me that OPC wouldn't usually consider buying (or selling) a car with near to 50k miles (I have since found a standard C4s at the OPC in Nottingham with 68k miles for £14k more than he offered me for mine).

Obviously loyalty and repeat custom stands for sweet FA with these guys.

I can't imagine that anyone would ever sell their car to these people for such low valuations. How do they therefore get the vehicles to sell, or was he just trying it on?

How do you think they pay for and staff the multi million pound showrooms they work from?!

sounds like you got a bad one there Phil - sorry to hear that. But, bear in mind that they are at the end of the day car dealers - don't expect too much from them

I get what you're saying, buy trying to make a 70 - 80% markup is just pure greed.

It's a good job I don't need to sell, and can enjoy it for years to come smile

Why were you asking for a valuation BTW?

Local OPC offered me such a low price on my GT3, I practically lost my temper with the guy.

It wasn't on the low side, it was laughable and insulting. I pointed out that my car would be back up for sale on their forecourt at £15-20k more than he just offered me in px.

This was to trade against a new 991. No wonder they're having trouble shifting them.

Shame, if he had offered me a good deal I would have gone for it, instead I was left with quite an unpleasant feeling about them.

I was seriously considering selling, mainly because the car does not get much use now that I work from home.

Just looked at your profile..
Considering you overpaid by such a large degree
a fairly substantial depreciation is to be expected

My old ice hockey coach used to have a saying about the people you speak of...'they fall into 3 categories; has-been's, wannabes, and never-gonna-be's".

I would guess that the derogatory comments come from people who fall into one or more of these categories, if you know what I mean wink

Awesome! eek

I don't know where that came from, and I can't say that I've ever bought a car for that amount.

Unfortunately, OPC's want to retail the best cars with the best histories and the lowest mileages in the good colours.

They want to buy these for peanuts & sell them with a minimum £10k margin.

TBH I'm amazed they ever have any stock. Can only assume many are part ex'd and the owners don't realise who much of a fisting they're actually taking.

Yes for most. Like JC would say, it is like adding HP sauce to caviar.
Although there is group of people who like GT3 replicas etc. but that has to go all the way.

I am just/was going through this...

I had a strange situation where they offered me X which wasn't a bad value, they still would have made £3-4 thousand but its a business...... When we got down to it they then said that the whole group (of garages) wasn't buying any stock but as they don't have a single Cayman across all their garages they wanted it but could only offer me Y which was £6000 less than X "as a good will gesture"!

Plus its a year and 10days old and because it doesn't have 2 year warranty (only 1 year 355 days) they wanted me to pay £1000 to give it 2 years (or actually 2 years and 355 days) so they can sell it!!

In all fairness the guy I was dealing with apologised and said his hands were tied and I should walk away!
