Style council - Frame colour for Chrom finishing kit?

Building up a new road bike.

Black finishing kit is ugly, and prevalent everywhere. Polished shiny silver stuff is lovely. Ritchey have brought out these road parts, which are quite well priced. Ergo - I need a new bike.

The whole bike is being built up on that premise (see foot note)



- Got new Tiagra Groupset (Silver) and wheels, frame is a free alloy winter jobbie (Merida I think) that will till I decide If I want to buy something nice.I'll strip it today and get it lashed up with a cheap job at the powdercoaters.


Killer question - Colour? Black? Bearing in mind the silver/polished will look somewhat 'retro' ...?

• Note - This kind of nonsense is not unusual in my garage - my last bike, a flat bar disc braked crosser, was built up entirely on the basis that I set of unused hubs lying around.

Anything deep 'n' lustrous, if that's the right term: Candy reds, dark navy blues etc. The kind of colours that'd suit, say, a car with similar chrome trimmings: Bentleys, C1/C2 Corvettes etc. Just my take of course

I'm going black on mine, but how about a metallic black for a change? Can the powdercoater accomodate that?

Definitely agree with a deep rich metallic red, blue or indigo - maybe an anodized finish instead of powder coated like the Gitane/Alan recently posted:

Black is so commonplace now, classic roadbikes used to be colourful.

Yellow, or a deep blue or red as suggested.

Or maybe if you are going for a retro look then maybe a nice metallic bronze or maybe a chocolate brown colour, those would set off the other shiny parts nicely

The brown which BMW are using on the X1 would be a rather lovely colour on a bike.

Yes I think a nice retro metal colour for sure.

One of my bikes has copper on some of the parts and although my bike is a 2011 build it looks about 50 years old, so if you are going for a retro look then a nice frame colour will do the job.

When I was thinking of brown I was thinking of the BMW because also of a Porsche when I was on the website configurator one night :-). Mahogany metallic I believe the colour is called
