If this is a straight car it looks like fantastic value:

Does anyone know the car? Did I miss a bargain?...

Yep, certainly looks fairly priced, obviously depending on when some key items were last replaced, or are due replacing.

Their ad is a bit out on production numbers, but it's no biggie. 89 or 103 MK1s came to the UK (I can never remember). 28 Clubsports.

Guards red is rare though, supposedly only 3 in Clubsport guise, mine being one of the other ones.

I looked at this car - it does seem good value on the face of it.

Buyer would have had to pay 12% buyers premium on it, so it would have cost about £36,400.

Still a good price IMO..

Almost 50% residual value after 13 years - not bad at all.

Its all about provenance.

There is no mention of FSH.
The mileage is not warranted.
Dont know what the tyres are and why they have been fitted.
There is an indication that some track related mods may have been carried out.
Why was it in an auction if it is a highly desirable model in good condition.

At over £36k after fees it is not really that cheap and although it MIGHT be a goodun it will always have a black cloud over it if there is a gaping hole in its history.

I think for that kind of money an honest and genuine model with a folder full of history could be found.

That said - Red is best cool

And my old one makes 4...

I think there were 15 red RHD cars in total. I can't recall the number of those that are CSs, but it's more than 3. wink

According to stats I have:-

106 officially imported into UK or which 28 were clubsports.

15 of the total are Guards Red.

So, as a rough guide if a quarter of cars were clubsports you can probably count the red ones on one hand.

Nerd logic nerd

Red really is best!

For the non-beardies amongst us, that prefer driving the socks off our GT3s to polishing them, then this could a a great car. Worth getting a proper inspection carried out by a reputable GT3 specialist and if it's a good one then it will ,are a great car for road and track smile

Who told you about my beard?

I agree that an inspection by a specialist is the right thing to do. The point is that, at an auction, you don't usually have the luxury of a full inspection by a specialist. You get a quick look and make your bid.

...................Must go and align my wheel centres followed by a quick buff up of my gear knob.

Now where did I put the immac

If you go into buying one with your head, most people will choose a MK2 due to getting upto a 5 year newer car, with minor improvements and lower miles (probably), for the same money.

I let my heart rule, hence I wanted the rarity of the MK1 and the experience of owning the original.

Very special cars.
