Took the Marcos out for a short drive on Saturday.
Still treading on eggshells incase the water decides it's rather be out than in.
Everything seemed fine, sounded fine so me and a friend were having a good time.
Until there was a dip in the road, which I knew about, even slowed down for.
But the car still bottomed lightly, twice, and came out of the other side making one helluva racket.
All sorts of things fly through your head, I've ripped the exhaust off, the front pulley has hit the chassis, big end....
Pulled off into a conveniently placed farm, had a check, and other than this rev dependant clatter (enough to drown the exhaust out!) all was well, oil pressure, temp etc.

On closer inspection the sump 'guard' was what hit the ground, and due to the ingenious way it's attach to the front of the sump, it distorted the front section so that the crank / big end now hits it....
A sump gasket is being sought and next weekend I will mostly be getting very oily.

ARSE!!

well I think I buglered my diff yesterday while taking a young lady out for a blast...car still perfectly driveable but I don't want to risk it so nice R*C man will be out shortly to tow it 170 miles to my garage in durham

I have instructed them to make sure it can take the heat of a trackday without buglering up and also asked them if there's anything that can be done to 'optimise' it

hey ho

It was a weekend for car disasters. I decided to put new pads on the rears and found one calliper acting very differently than it was supposed to. A simple 5 minute job became a 2 hour job requiring a complete strip and rebuild. Hydraulic fluid all over the place. Still it's on the road now.

Hope all goes well with your repairs.

Tom, I'll not have any excuses, I need to see the Ginetta at Croft.

Well, after scrounging some tools from work to get the sump off (two bolts are a reet bugger to reach) we finally got the sump off last night.
Fair amount of damage, but it'll be ok for the time being.
I was working in the garage until 10.50 last night to get the sump cleaned, beaten back into shape and then modify the guard so it attaches to the flange and not the pan.
I've brought it into work to get welded this morning.

Ultimately I'll source a replacement and do the job properly, but this bodge will do for the time being.

Sump has been bodged, refitted, and all seems fine after a short run out yesterday.
And now that it's fixed, down comes the rain....

Now watch out for those dips in the road. You need it in good order so that you can bring it to our next meet. We all want to marvel at your handiwork. (or should I say needlework)
