Compared 991 and 981 today

Spent a couple of hours in a 991 S followed by a 981 S.

Immediately coming out of the RS the Boxster was the one to turn my head. It was light, nimble, pick up was whizzy, not that quick but nippy enough. Lovely interior.

The 991 seemed heavy and slow by comparison. Both cars were PDK and yet in the 991 you had to really use a lot of throttle angle to get a change down - even though both were driven in SPORT mode. Once moving the 991 was quicker, but felt big and heavy. The main problem was it was too much like my current car, just not as good or responsive.

It clearly felt like a more complex car than the Boxster and possibly more rewarding to drive - but if I had to take one home tonight it would be the 981.

Now shall it be PDK or manual?

I drove a PDK 991 Cab and 981S back to back - much preferred the 981 but with either I wasn't particularly enamoured with the PDK on sport setting.

Had a 981 S for 4 days last week, I liked it a lot, the new Cayman shall be epic for sure!

Manual suits the car so much better, IMO. No matter how "good" the PDK system is, it still felt dim witted when I drove a 981 PDK. Manual was a joy in comparison
