Its been discussed a few times but I assume that the only option for carrying long items (skis) on the 911 is the official Roof Transport System? I know Dave (996 Turbo) tried a configuration from Thule but that didn't quite work out as the rear feet were too low down.

Anyone know of good sources for a second hand ones? (If anyone has one they don't use and would like to sell let me know).

Thanks

I think you didn't see the latest update on the other thread. I changed the rear feet for a different ones which are higher - my non-Porsche ones are now totally level. Check the other thread for the summary on which combination you need.

Ok, found it (I had overlooked the second page). You said:

.....
But in fact, what you actually need is :

2 x Footpack 753 (for the front) and 2 x Footpack 751 (for the rear), fitting kit 3100 and roof bars.

Sounds great, will very likely go down this route now.

I see you went for the 'wing bar', is it silent enough at speed?

Depends what you mean....

With the roof closed, absolutely fine. With the roof open (even tilt, rather than slide) damn annoying, even at town speed.

I don't have a sunroof so not an issue.

I actually prefer the look of the Aero bars (smaller/simpler) and would go for those but on the site it claims the Wing bars: "generate 90% less sound energy than the Aero" (sound energy = noise??).

I actually think I have wing bars. I believe I ordered Aero, but I got sent Wing.

ETA : Yep - just checked pics online. I have wing bars.

I am a little confused. Will this solution fit a 997 as well as a 996 ? I am getting the impression that the roof mounting system is the same, but it's not entirely clear to me.

I was thinking of ordering these, but I want to make sure they will fit first.
