Morning all,

My ESP light is permanently on and can't turn it off. The car in question is a VW Golf MkIV. I assume as have read some things online, that may require some attention. However, I have called several places to get a diagnostic test run on the car and everywhere is about £45. Is this normal to charge, this I tried to strike a deal by saying if they do the job to fix/replace the will not charge me.

I appreciate that people and businesses need to make money and it is their time that I'm taking. But to plug in some kit and let it run for a bit. Any advice would be grateful.

Oh and I work in Southampton and live in the surrounding area.

Thanks

Can't honestly say £45 sounds unreasonable to me. I know that's a main agent charge (plus VAT). Maybe an independent would be better?

There's no reason why the cost should be offset against any repairs as the bottom line is that they pay for the software, the operator's time (and diagnosis) and on top of that expect to make a profit.

Maybe try these guys? http://www.abtechavssltd.com/
I'm not saying they won't charge, but they've always been good for me over my years of VAG ownership.

Sorry it didn't fix the problem but it looks like a sensor playing up.

Tom - I bought one of these (VS450) for £35 recently. Simple to use and does what it says on the tin.

The latteral sensors often go on these platforms. Get Vag Com - i have a mate with it but hes away til next week at the mo. I have a liquid gauge in my dash which does fault finds etc too. Or could be your maf has died. sometimes throws the esp light up. give that a test buddy.

I have a race cupra - did away with the ESP sensor and never get the light wink haha
