So just over one month in after getting our Cayman and have to say, what a great bit of kit!!

I know people often describe Porsche ownership as an “event” every time they go out in their cars, but it genuinely is an event and always feels like your driving something special. Ours has the gen 2 - 2.9 engine and while it is not the fastest by any stretch, I feel it’s natural environment is on the small twisty back roads.

The way it handles reminds me of my old Elise - just much better built wink for me it has enough power on the back roads, while I build my confidence with it. It just continues to impress me in that area and find it very rewarding. Can only imagine how superb the power feels like from the S and R model.

There are so many aspects I like about it. It feels special from the moment you turn the key and hear that flat 6 start up from cold. The way the gear changes (short shift) is so positive and accurate. I love the view in the wing mirrors, of that curvy rear. I think it is a stunning looking car and the design will age well.

The cabin is such a nice place to be, you really feel connected with the dynamics of the car, especially when you get those rev’s up, the experience consumes you, with that engine behind your ears!! Tech wise ours has the sat nav, phone and device system, which all works very well and is pretty intuitive.

The not so great bits are on a very short list.

As we are not doing much M-way journeys and mainly b-roads, she likes a drink, around 23-24 MPG, which is not too bad. I noticed it can get a little noisy at higher speeds within the cabin, probably more to do with the tyres than anything. The odd squeak and rattle from the tailgate annoys me at times. Also - wish it had DAB, as does not seem to hold FM stations very well..

All in all I am very content and would recommend a Cayman as a great place to start into Porsche ownership. For the money, I think it is spot on... Thanks G.

Nice write up. Pleased you're enjoying it. Try winding out the rubber stops on the bottom corners of the tailgate to assist in eliminating rattles from that area.

My other half describes a ride out in my Cayman as 'like being in an aircraft', and bear in mind previously I had the loudest Impreza on planet earth hehe I think its a combination of the small cabin, tyre roar (I have the big wheels too) and the engine noise.

Great cars.

EDIT: I have had 30MPG on the trip computer for ages now. Mainly motorways for me however.

Nice write up. Mines a 2.9 Boxster and I am also loving it.

People who have never driven one but then compare specs with a typical Audi etc are missing a trick.

There is just a certain something about how a Porsche....... drives.

Get some small pieces of rubber or neoprene and stick them in the frame of the tailgate to dampen the vibration, also take the 'boot' divider out when not in use. If the rattles persist they are probably from the latch for the hatch itself(there are guides out there how to adjust this), or the light cluster. If the latter, again some rubber and neoprene dampers in strategic locations will sort it out.

Once I did the first step above mine was quiet as a mouse.

Tyre roar can be sorted with Michelin PS2s, and(probably) Eagle F1 assymetric 2.

MPG: my 2.7 managed 23 exactly on the B-roads of mid-wales, usually driven like it was intended. Motorways I saw 33-36 if sticking to 70, but around 30 at 85+ on the continent.

Nice , glad you are enjoying it.

If winding out the stops doesn't work ( didn't for me )then move the latch where the tailgate lock goes in down as far as it will go in its mounting holes. You'll have to remove some bits of plastic trim in the boot to get access to it.
