A bit of background:

I live in Asia in a hub where driving is a joke and a new Toyota whatever costs the same as a new Boxster as a guide so I literally have petrol leaking out of every pore of me itching to do some proper driving.

Ealier in the year I booked an Avis 911 for a week in Germany intending to do the Alpine Strasse but unfortunately got ill and had to cancel and was well gutted.

However I have rebooked a ski trip over New Year, this time traveling from Stuttgart down to St. Anton, but in a Hertz BMW 3 Series (any idea what I will get?).

I have one day prior to my skiing chalet dates kick in and also intend to take one day break in between from the week's skiing and would love some good roads recommendation in the regio - either driving down on the way from Stuttgart to St. Anton, or from St Anton as a base.

I see that Stelvio is actually not TOO far away, however it still looks like 2.5 hour minimum. Oh and I wouldn't want to do the Alpine Strasse as I was to redo that 911 trip again sometime in the future.

Lastly - I know..... it will be wintery and snowy so mountain passes are out of the question? Do you guys think I'll be an idiot getting in a 3-series and won't even make it to St. Anton??

Many thanks!

Ez

Mountain passes will be closed then as they'll be covered in snow. From Stuttgart head east into the Black Forest and go south through that. Mind that does take you slightly away from where you are heading and I've no idea what the roads will be like through the forest at that time of year.

oh and the 3 series should be fine, just make sure it has snow/winter tyres fitted because otherwise you'll be taking the tyre chains on and off all the time
