I once made this:

but I just saw this...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150931693977?ru=http%3A%...

... and I love it... so TechArt, while you have done some monstrosities you can also do some fine work, I am sorry.

TechArt is pronounced Techarrrrrrrrghhhht as it's the response I have whenever I see one of their abominations. God help Porsche if they ever merge with Kahn.

That is a stunning ebay find, although it's missing the Techart front bumper which would be quite expensive to find/replace. If it comes up for sale next year then I would seriously consider it...

Really?

Cat D - 'Minor front end shunt', yeah right!
Airbag light on although 'only' £240 to fix, why hasn't the seller done it?
No service book

Oh yes, and it's taken a good beating from the Techart ('art'?) ugly stick......

Heh, I know I am in the minority. But, TechArt actually do some things well. For starters they built the Cayman (GT Sport) that Porsche should have:

It generates more downforce, is quicker, has LSD, lower centre of gravity, dialed out the understeer, brakes better and in my opinion looks better than the stock Cayman. Still, of course its not everyones taste.

At least two of us then ;-)

The car was upgraded by Tech9 (the official UK TechArt dealer). I like the look of the car but the handling is now sublime and LSD makes a big difference on the track and in the wet. The Cayman is such a great handling car anyway but the various suspension modifications (geo, springs/dampers) make it even better . Performance is also improved and it sounds great with the full exhaust system (manifold/high flow cats), no drone in the cabin though.

I would be wary of the eBay car and would want to see invoices. There are plenty of copies of the TechArt gear around:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-997-GT2-Rear-Win...

The one above is 1700, the TechArt one is >3,000 and carbon fibre. The same for the front, rear and side panels. Also the TechArt kit is designed to work together (aerodynamics). Having a GT3 front and TechArt rear is not ideal.

I can vouch for Dan's Cayman, its a top bit of kit and gets loads of great comments and attention.

Here are a few of Dan's TechArt next to my R

Nice! Never did see those pictures. The cars look great together. The Cayman R is an awesome bit of kit, yours in the best color as well :-)

A few weeks ago wifey and I had a new 981 for the afternoon and drove the R. Back to back the Cayman R and my own Cayman felt so much better handling-wise than the 981. Even with PASM on the 981 felt light and lacked feedback. On the track this would be even more apparent. I think the new Cayman will be a great bit of kit but will feel similar to the 981 (electronic steering, same suspension setup) I wonder if the Cayman R or sorted S will be the best handling Porsche in recent years.

PS
I miss those Cayman hips in the wing mirror when sat in the 981. The rear in the 981 (and perhaps the new Cayman) are squared off with few curves.

True enough, some of the Techart stuff is a bit scary, but as said above Dan's Cayman is a good-looker and always gets good comments when people who are bright enough to have an opinion spot it.

My thoughts exactly! No way it was written off for something minor & if it had been repaired right the light would be off...

Having worked in car insurance for the UK's biggest insurer I personally wouldn't immediately worry about a cat D write off. I'm not saying I'd immediately accept it but at the same time I'm looking at the advert and not assuming the worst. When you take into account that a new Techart bumper will cost a minimum £3000 plus fitting (and possibly importation and UK tax) then you very quickly understand why an insurance company would write this off. The insurance company don't lose £20,000, they sell the car for £15,000. You may look at this as a loss but an insurance company will look at this as a cheaper loss than buying a genuine Techart bumper and having it fitted and painted by an approved repairer (plus any other damaged parts such as wings/bumper/etc) as they then recoup the majority of their money by selling the car. So yes, if the add is as genuine as any other car that I would hope to buy i would assume it is a very good deal!

My post wasnt so much about whether the Cat D was good value etc
But I love the Cayman but always felt the back end was missing something, never did I think that TechArt would be the ones making it look that good biggrin
