The winter roadies thread

To start off, I have would like to change over my 23mm Schwalbe Luganos (thanks for the recommendation this summer, they have been great) to something a bit wider and grippier, currently thinking of their Marathon Originals.

I have looked at my rims but it doesn't say what the maximum tyre width can be. The tyres are available in 25,28,32,35 and 38 widths. I'd like to go to 28mm, any thoughts if these would fit or my standard DRC wheels (on a Carrera Virtuoso)?

Frame clearances for the larger tyres can be an issue on close clearance race frames.

Marathons are touring tyres, non? Tough, but heavy and slow.

I'm sure that one of the bike mags will have done a group test on winter rubber in preparation for the clocks going back. A bit of googling should dredge something up from this year.
