Yes I still haven't found my car yet. Saw this but it's a long way from Warwickshire. I wondered if it was known to anyone and if it was worth me finding out more about it?

Description mentions being on Bridgestone tyres but photo shows a Toyo?
Not the "end the world" but if seller can't get that bit right ?
Generally lots of "in very good condition" but very little "new or recently replaced" (shocks, brakes, rad 'n hoses etc. etc.)
If white "rocks your boat" might be worth the trip (and some serious haggling)
I noticed the S2 S3 thing as well. Shame the copy in the ad is lacking in any detail. It sounds like dealer waffle but is a private ad.
It does look stunning in white and the blue interior look good with it too.
It's about an 8 hour drive upto Ayr for me. So I'll have a good think over the weekend about investing the time and money in this enigma.

It still has the wood inserts in the door cars, but doesn't feature any wood on the dashboard.
If it is an S3 with good history and in good condition - is it worth the price and should I be planning a trip ?

just out of interest how are "we" deciding if it's a 2 or a 3 ?
Dashboard design?
My car was registered a couple of months before that one as a 290S,but refered to as an S3 on all other paperwork (factory order sheet, reciept etc.) It has the "straight" dash, like that one with rotary switches and has S3 decals along the sides (fitted from new). Also has driving lights bonnet but that's on the original invoice as an additional cost option.
I call mine an S3
Also, like that one, the only "wood" was the door trims, oh, and the gear knob, fitted by the selling dealers foc.

It gets to a point where only a phone call (or visit) will elicit more information. What has been replaced? As Mike points out there isn't detail on chassis repairs, shocks, rad etc. etc. No photos of the hood up. Certainly an early S3 it has the long doors. Again, as Mike points out it has the round knobs and other details. It doesn't have the different glovebox lid that I have seen fitted to some really early S3 cars. The car looks good in the photos, but could have been taken ages ago (before the tyres wore out and were replaced!).
It does sound like a dealer advert - too many superlatives for my liking. The guy doesn't list this car on his profile but may have bought it recently and changed his mind....

Went to look at it the other day. It has good points....and bad points.
Looks like it has been looked after in the past but the biggest (not the only) problem is the drivers door fit. All the ad pix show the nearside. Door is suffering from major drop when closed - I didn't have the opportunity to open it - and the rear shut line is non existent. The door is kicking out at the bottom by up to an inch at the rear. Alignment to the front wing is good. If it was just new bobbins etc. not too worrying but maybe something more sinister?
