Morning all.

I'm thinking about buying the hatchling (4.75 years old) a telescope for xmas.

Through the vast array of the google results does anyone have any suggestions or indeed one for sale?

David.

Strangely enough, I bought my husband one years ago. It came out of the box once and has been sat doing nothing ever since. We're now trying to downsize ready for a house move so it was being moved on anyway. I can get the make/model info if you're interested. Wouldn't want much for it.

Buy him binoculars instead. A good set of 10*50s will be infinitely better for a kid [or anybody else for that matter] who is just starting out. Wider field of view, no hours of trying to resolve blurred images, and when he inevitably gets bored of it 10 minutes after he's looked at the moon you won't have a telescope stealing garage space.

That would be ideal, thanks!

Costco are once again selling the Celestron 102GT for £169 inc. VAT

Would a 5-year old be able to hold binoculars steady enough without a tripod? With a tracking 'scope you could at least set it up for the planets yourself then let him look.

Try looking on the Science! forum, there is a big thread about what telescopes, might be of some help to you.
