newbie with dslr camera

hi. I know it is asking to much but PH keeps surprising me.
today i bought a canon eos 550d with the twin lenses kit.
i was wondering if there is anyone local (banbury) that would swap a few beers and a bottle of wine for some basic instructions of how to use the camera.

I find Tom Ang quite good at explaining this sort of stuff in fairly simple terms.
Take a poke around at your local library or bookstore if you can't get someone to show you hands-on.
