What are they like, I'm very close to buying a Boardman Road Comp and they felt Ok but I can imagine them needing a lot of adjusting over time.

Anyone able to give me some first hand information?

They'll need no more adjustment than another other gear system (Shimano, Campagnolo): once you're past the shifters, the means of operation is still the same: cables (and that's the bit that'll require routine adjustment) pulling mechs, with how far it's pulled each time governed by the shifter itself.

Only only thing that really matters is how you find the means of shifting (do you like th DoupleTap arrangement) and the shape of the hoods (are they comfortable? Do they suit your hands?). Beyond that you're into weight and bling-factor, which - for your first road bike at least - means the square-root of f..k all

Cheers for that. Yeh, they felt great and the shifting mechanism was perferct for my hand reach and position on the drops.

I guess I just thought that they seemed complicated as they shift up and down by pushing it one way. As long as they are reliable over time then that'll do for me.

I think I'll go and pay the deposit on Monday and look forward to my first Road Bike.

I use Sram Rival on my cross bike, and they are spot on, no matter how muddy, just perfect shifts time and time again. Once you get used to double tap it's all good.

I've got three road bikes, one SRAM Apex, the other two Shimano 105 & Ultegra. The SRAM bike is two years old and has NEVER needed drivetrain adjustment. The other two however...
