The still water is down to timing. The luck comes in that both me and Mrs Get work from home (self employed), so when we get good weather we down tools, get in the car and stay overnight in one of about a dozen hotels across the highlands (that take dogs... not Mrs. Get, Charlie). We often get very still days here and as long as one is out early enough ... etc. Or is it your superior skill and kit as there's no way on this green earth I'd manage photos of your calibre - I know, I've tried...
The HDRness is almost certainly me using curves to accentuate highlight and shadow (Which, as you know in essence is what HDR does, but with more than one image). I think I might have gone a tad OTT on a couple of them... may have to re-visit.
The D800 being 35mp is very sharp when it's got expensive glass in front of it! (And then resized / sharpened for web)

Ahh thanks - I wonder if my D3100 can match that. Saying that, North Lincolnshire isn't as picturesque... I was over there on Saturday (live on the east coast so I travel west to take photos every other weekend during autumn/winter) and the colour's are really like that. It's a stunning place at this time of the year in every light.blindswelledrat said:

I altered the curves. This does affect colours a bit. I then tried to get them back to 'as I saw them' On several I desaturated a bit (esp the reds) as people don't think the colours are real.Are your pictures heavily doctored GC?

I mentioned earlier I may have gone a tad OTT - highlight/shadow on the 'lonely house'. I'll re-visit.
This from the 'Random' thread taken yesterday ... the colours really are this vibrant. If you can get here today (whilst it's still sunny and before we have a gale!) bring ya camera!
